Default Ashtray light bulb replacement

OK, so I remove the ashtray by (1)removing the ashtray insert; (2)pushing down on the spring hinged "roof" to get to the screws; (3) remove the two phillips head screws.

The ashtray light bulb pulls out of the ashtray wrapped in a rubber grommet.

Do I just pull on the wires and slide out the bulb? It doesn't seem to want to get pulled out and I don't feel like having to order a new piece if I don't have to.

Any experience or suggestions?

Wedge base bulb, pulls straight out. Wrap a bit of duck tape around it if you fingers can't grip it. I replaced it with an LED 74 bulb - see:

Mike, your car is falling apart man. First the windshield, now the ashtray light. Hope you're using the right oil...

Darn, I was hoping to pick it up cheep. Since you won't really need it once you acquire your 997.

Your cracking me up. Fortunately the ash tray bulb is working so I'm not forced into a distress sale. The 997 is in process still doing my homework.

Glad you guys were able to work that out.

For anybody who hasn't seen their ashtray light bulb/holder, here is a picture.

Note the screws that need to be removed to take out the ashtray.
