Sorry, not a 993 but its my 1976 Toyota FJ40. I absolutely love this truck. I'm faced with a decision to make. I want to get back in to the 993 world. I know where the market is and continues to go for air cooled 911's so I'll soon be placing a WTB for a high mileage NB 993 manual coupe. I may even consider a 964. The issue that I face is should I sell my FJ40? If I do this will put me in range to grab another WB 993. Right now I am leaning towards keeping it and going with a high mileage NB. Sorry for the nonsense thread, I am just stirring up conversation for a decision that I am going to have to make shortly and looking for some input and ideas from other 993 owners. I'll be retiring next month so I will be looking to purchase something in next month or two.

You will do well with a high mileage 993. Don't expect to get away easy on the maintenance and repairs. You could spend 10k in the first 2 years easy. I still say that money spent on your 993 is like money in the bank.

Snap! I'm in the process of doing a nut and bolt rebuild of my 1981 BJ40(Diesel). It's a one owner original Irish car so over here it'll be worth a lot when finished(not that this was my motivation).

Chris,
That is gorgeous! I'd love an FJ40 like that one day.

Very cool FJ! Can I ask what you would sell it for if you decide to?

PM me and I 'll let you know what price I would need if I do decide to sell. I don't want members to think this was a thinly veiled for sale thread.

Just really comes down to how much you want a WB or not. I'd personally keep the 40 and pick up a NB. The market for 40's always all over too…..Bonestock uncut bringing ridiculous money now….lifted cut modified like yours(Which honestly makes them more fun) still only in teens . I've always had atleast 2 cruisers in the garage 40,60,62 etc. and they'r my sanity for project vehicles. Looks like you've done quite a bit to yours…2f still?

Yes still 2f. This is my 4th fj40. I've had one with a 350 and I prefer the 2f in these. The 2f is virtually indestructible. It's not really just a NB/WB decision. With the prices being where they are it'll have to be a high mileage NB. I'd want one that was well maintained with the desirable upgrades already done. It would be easier to sell the FJ and I'd have more options when looking for 993's, but there's just something so cool about these trucks, especially in this blue that I've always wanted. Hey, at least my FJ has Bilstein shocks! Even the warn 8274 winch works! The salty roads keep this truck in the garage though. Hopefully by April I can get it back out.

Chris,
I would keep the FJ if you have the garage space because by your comments you really enjoy having it around and would dearly miss it. Good luck in your decision.

Other than the fender flares being riveted in, and rear sill being replaced, nothing was cut. The rear fenders weren't cut. If you look closely in first pic you can see the blue fender peeking out from the front of flare.

Actually you are correct. I just spoke to the previous owner and the rear fenders were cut about 1 inch then welded back to make room for the 35 inch tires. I was under the assumption they weren't cut as the factory lip is still present.

I'd also say it you can swing it, keep the truck and go with a NB. Gives you something else to drive if the 993 gets old.

Nice ride for sure…noticed you did the advanced handling shackle reversal too. I've got a 78 40- desert dune,5.7 vortec, aussie 4spd and orion 4-1…and a 8274 too.hands down best winch ever produced.

Yes shackle reversal is a must with 35 inch tires. It has power steering as well which I really appreciate. This is the first Fj I've owned where you can drive at 55 mph with two fingers on the steering wheel and it tracks perfectly straight.
Your truck sounds like a beast. It must be great with a 5.7 vortec in it.
