Here in the valley of the SUN, Phoenix, Az. We have the latest technology popping up on many of the busy street corners. That being the auto camera to record speeders (11MPH + over limit), and the nasty red light runners, which our city appears to be number one in the nation. Hence, the ticket in the mail.
My question is, Who sells the License plate screens that hide three of the six or seven letters. Depending if you are standing left or right of the vehicle depends which numbers/letters are hidden.
Checked the PepBoys, etc. to no avail.
Suggestions? Dealer product?
What about legality? Are they legal and if not in what states?
TIA
Bob

I wouldn't worry about the legality. There is a website out of San Diego which states that photoradar is unconstitutional. There is a class action lawsuit going on down there. Any body have the web address for it? I bet it has links to the to the license reflector you're looking for.

Of course, we all know that it's revenue enhancement, pure and simple. As a past Az. Representative once said, true to his constituents, -the money citizens have left over after paying their taxes is a gubment expenditure.

As useful as this may prove to be in not getting a photo-ticket I will pass on putting this on my car.
If I did get pulled over for something/anything I don't want the cop to look at my license plate screen and get tick off. Ticked off enough that I would get a ticket when I would not have gotten one otherwise. (Heck he already is going to be ticked off pulling over a shinny red sports car with a radar detector and 6 point harness belts.)
Even if it might be legal in my state I better not get one.

There is a product out there that is an aerosol spray (Photo Fog?). Supposedly you spray this on your plate and it is undetectable...but still causes photo radar to be unable to read the plate. I thought it had something to do with the fact that photo radar needs a very bright flast to snap the picture at that speed.
Any one has any experience using this?

Just tonight on the way to a meeting, I was hauling some serious bootie. I went through an intersection with a green light and pop-pop, two of the brightest flashes of light I've ever seen obviously nailed me.
1) First off, those lights are dangerous. Not only did it break my concentration but even more so, it temporarily blurred my vision. It's my bet that someone is going to get into an accident caused by those haneous things and the city will get sued and that'll be the end of that.
- After having my vision blurred I quickly realized that I still have my Florida tags on the car!! HA! No front plate
When I do eventually switch my car over, I am no going to put a front plate on. The fine isn't so bad and it'll probably save me $$$ in the long run.
Besides, neither of my cars have front brakcets for a plate. I'm sure not looking forward to adding that mod!

Bob,
Those license plate covers which conceal the numbers when viewed at an angle are popular in Scottsdale but illegal and you may be harassed or fined.
The best solution is a Valentine One Radar Locator which is legal. Photo Radar has such low power many radar detectors cannot protect you but my V1 has made me invulnerable since photo radar came to Scottsdale in 1996. The V1 gives about 0.3 miles warning of photo radar and up to 2 miles warning for other radar.
Good luck!

George

P.S. In case you did not know, the photo radar tickets they mail you are not legally binding in Maricopa County unless you are personally served! When you get one in the mail you only need to hide out for 90 days.

Thanks George,
Common Sense always prevails.
I will forget the plastic plate cover. And rely on my old trusty V1, which does a super job.

This is not legal advice, but I will share an experience I had:
While living in Ohio, my car did not have the front license plate bracket (a VW). I got pulled over on the expressway by a State Trooper for excessive window tint and no front plate, which is mandatory in OH. No mention of speeding, which I wasn't doing anyways. I tried to argue, but was told "tell it to the judge". My lawyer told it to the judge, and the judge's response was since there was no bracket, I was not expected to have a front plate. He threw it out. The tint charge was thrown out, too (lawyer said he didn't think it was "that bad", judge agreed). Would a different judge handle it a different way? I don't know - so I kept the spare plate in the back seat area so I could pop it behind the windshield when I needed to. But I never needed it.
