That's amazing! Looks great. I've never seen such a tight to the ceiling job before. So how does the motor/opener work on such a job? Is it conventionally attached in the center or to the side, somehow?

Awesome Bill! I plan to do this as well. I have a garage door company around me that will do the conversion.

its good he put an angle on the door tracks. When the door is level "helper springs" should be installed with a side opener (not always required though). They keep a load on the cables to assist the opener while initially closing the door.
its hard to find a garage guy who will spend the time to do this. it came out great.

Look into magnetic induction lighting. I redid my garage back in Raleigh with these a couple years ago and absolutely love them. Very bright, low power draw, low glare, and long life. They're commonly used in tunnels.

I'll play. First up is my garage in Raleigh, featuring the aforementioned induction lamps. Someday I'll move back, and despite not having the height for a lift, I'm going to love having a real garage again. Although it's small potatoes compared to some of you guys, it's a 60-year old house with charm so I'm making do. (Note that the annoying diagonal wiring is not my doing -- came with the house.)
The fourth photo is of how I'm getting by at my rental in California. On the other hand, I bought a 993, so I can't complain.

Is that swisstrax on your floor? If so, how do you like it? I went with racedeck b/c it appears the women in my family would have difficulty walking on swisstrax in high heels... Appears their heels would punch down into the swisstrax?

993kh20...no, that is Racedeck Free Flow. I had the regular Race Deck with a few areas of Free Low to aid drying during the winter, but I found that the water stayed under the regular Race Deck for days during the winter. Changed to Free Flow and it is dry the next day...
The gaps are actually quite small...I think they would be fine. Order a free sample and give it a try.
