It might be better/safer to build the wall out so that it sits flush with the encroachment. Yes a PITA but would give you the ability to run some electrical/ A/V /network in there for a pretty clean setup. You could even make the center of that new wall recessed as it looks like the rear legs of the bench could be shortened. Just a thought...
Not a bad thought.
The other reason I wanted them against the existing wall is so they don't push any further into the garage space than necessary. I just had the garage built and the 36' width is nice, but at only 24' deep, I don't want to sacrifice much in that direction.
Because of the amount of block showing I'm going to guess you have 2x4" wall studs - no way will they hold that amount of weight even if double studded. You would need a 2x6" studded wall and over-sized ceiling joists and even then I wouldn't do it unless doubled studded.
Yeah, 2x4 stud wall with drywall sheathing both sides. The wall does support the ceiling joist, however, which are 2x12's and I believe hurricane clips are used...I'll need to check the blueprint.
I've been web surfing this topic and have read quite a contrast in opinion, so if I decide to try the hang route will probably put a call into my architect.
Or, I might floor mount and strap them somehow to the wall for stability. I was trying to maximize usable floor space as well avoid a big space behind the cabinets.
Just to add some balance to all of these pristine garages, I offer up my POS. Garage Journal, eat your heart out.
While not in the same league as most of the pics in this thread, I thought I'd replace my previous POS contribution with this new and improved one. Same garage, just with a lot less junk. Next up is a scissor lift and new floor.
^^You win the award for MOST IMPROVED garage for sure!! And nobody else, I mean nobody, has a drum set in their garage! KUDOS!
Thanks!
I wish I could take credit. I actually got the "drum set in the shop" idea from Mr. Darin Fister during a trip to FD Motorsports.
In addition to picking up the Golden Rod and complementary pineapple, I also got to hack away at his drums which were temporarily set up about 3 feet to the right of the mufflers in this pic.
