given the two quotes above I obviously have no idea how to use the forum tools... as I was meaning to attach the message and pics in the body directly above (to which i was replying) ...

Garage Cabinet Installation
I just received new garage cabinets (much heavier than I was expecting!) and thinking through installation. Because the foundation encroaches into the floor space (see picture), I was going to wall mount/hang the entire system.
Instructions came with the cabinets for how I want to install, but I was wondering if a French cleat may be easier. Have been searching for some load rating for various size French cleats, but nothing so far.
The other concern I have is will the wall support loaded cabinets? For example, the 80"x36"x24" locker (I have two) weights between 150-200 pounds and has a capacity of another 1,000 pounds. I don't expect to put that much in these, but that's the rating. If I hang the system, I can try to rest it on the foundation kick-out, but beyond that none of the load will transfer to the floor.
Anyway, just asking if anyone has dealt with a similar scenario and can share their experience.
TIA

It might be better/safer to build the wall out so that it sits flush with the encroachment. Yes a PITA but would give you the ability to run some electrical/ A/V /network in there for a pretty clean setup. You could even make the center of that new wall recessed as it looks like the rear legs of the bench could be shortened. Just a thought...

Whatever you do, take your time and decide. You don't want to regret it later.
The cabinets look nice and you don't want a bodgy job messing up the look.
What if you were to raise the end cabinet lockers up? That way you can bring them closer to the wall. If you were to use 6x6" or 8x8" post material it could then be dressed/trimmed off for a cleaner look. Also it would allow you to leave one end open which might be a convenient place to store the floor jack.
Because of the amount of block showing I'm going to guess you have 2x4" wall studs - no way will they hold that amount of weight even if double studded. You would need a 2x6" studded wall and over-sized ceiling joists and even then I wouldn't do it unless doubled studded.
The lockers on the ends will carry most of the cabinet weight but a french cleat is still a great idea.
Also, the separation between the floor and block should be filled with something to help keep moisture and insects out. I used LEXEL which is great stuff!
Best of luck and please post pics when done!
