Default 993 Rear Spoiler Mod

I've received a few PMs requesting some guidelines for the rear spoiler mod to full manual operation on the 993. I cannot take credit for any of the following information. They can be found through a search here on RL but lack details and photos. Boman993 (Jakob) posted a nice DIY some 2-3 years ago, but is no longer in the archive. Here are some step by step instructions to full manual operation. This may take 30 minutes for first timers. Your rear spoiler will only operate via the console switch. Note: perform this mod at your own risk!

1. Go to passenger side foot well and remove floor mat.
2. Look up under dash and locate a black plastic box/module about 2"x4" encased in an aluminum bracket.
3. Use a philips screwdriver and remove screw.
4. Pull module out and let hang.
5. Insert flat screwdriver as shown and gently pry connector away from module, taking care not to damage the plastic.
6. Place module out of the way. The mod is to the connector/harness only.
7. Again use a flat screwdriver to gently pry the cap off of the connector harness.
8 . Be very careful here. Once the cap comes off, the pins may pop out of the harness.
9. Gently lift/pull out pin #8 and #12 (one is green and one is white/red).
10. Fold the 2 pins against the wiring loom and snap the cap back onto harness.
11. Tape off the 2 exposed pins and zip tie to wiring loom.
12. Reconnect harness to control module.
13. Insert module back inside aluminum bracket.
14. Secure with screw and replace carpet.
15. Now go for a test drive

Add'l info: See last photo
If you don't want to mess with the spoiler module, and would like to disable the spoiler completely, here's a very simple mod. This mod also works in case you decide to install a fixed wing such as an RS wing or Turbo S wing.
1. Open engine lid
2. Disconnect the rear spoiler harness attached to the right lid hinge, directly to the right of the airbox.
3. Cut a short piece of wire and jumper the 2 pins as shown in last pic.
4. Wrap with electrical tape to secure.
5. Start the engine to verify no spoiler warning light.
6. Done

Thanks!

I need to do this - my stock rear lid was replaced with an OEM Turbo S spoiler, but the electronics still expect the wing to raise and lower. I've worn out the "!" dismiss switch since it sets off whenever the wing expects to raise or lower

You don't have to do this if you have the turbo S wing , just unplugged it from the module and you will never see the light ever again 👍🏼 follow P daddy instruction til #4 and you will be good 🤓

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying the unplug the WHOLE module and leave detached instead of going after these two wires within the module? TIA

Just getting back in a 993 after several years without one. Always hated the spoiler going up and down and up and down in some situations- this sounds great.

Just want to be sure I understand exactly what this mod does.

I assume:
The spoiler does nothing unless you press (and hold?) the switch.
If the car is running and you press "up" it goes up.
If the car is running and you press "down" it goes down.
Whatever state it is in (up or down) when the car is running, it stays in that position, even when you turn the car off.
Whatever state it is in (up or down) when the car is off, it stays in that position, even when you start the car.

Is that correct?

Good write up, but consider either disconnecting the battery or pulling the 15amp Spoiler fuse (#37 I believe) because that spoiler connector will have one hot pin which could damage something if the pins jump out off place.

I did this mod a few years ago and love it. 80 km/h is way to low of a speed to activate the spoiler, found it going up and down constantly around town. If you have the RUF module I think it activates it at 120 km/h which makes more sense.

You don't need to pull the battery- there's no voltage to the module when the power is off. This is super easy and a GREAT MOD. As Rudy stated, careful with the other wires-I put a piece of masking tape over the rest of the plugs when I did this to keep them in the sales order in the event they did come out- and they come out really easily!
