Default Seeking 993 Tire Recommendation

I currently have the Sumitomo HTR ZIIIs and have good experience with them, as others seem to have had reading the posts, but time to replace. I have 265/35ZR18 on the rear and 225/40ZR18 on the front. Any recommendations about going with a wider tire on the front and rear? My use is pretty much weekday commuting on surface streets and opening often on the weekends on Southern California highways.

Thanks,

KMS

There are endless discussions on the "best tire." It comes down to what you want from the tires.

With that being said I'm a Michelin guy and I use the PS2's but looking into doing the Super Sports for the next set. I drive my harder than most, so its worth the extra money to me for the "higher end" tires. If you are going to just use it for commuting then you don't need any "more" that what you have on there, thats what the tire is made for.

I have the same tires, but am using 285/30 in the rear. Car is primarily a street/ weekend road trip use vehicle. I am happy with handling and ride quality.

I plan on trying the Yokohama AD08 on the next go around though. I have had A008s and the AVS sports on previous cars and been very happy with Yokohama tires.

Never been dissatisfied with any Yokohama tire, and we currently have them on several cars, oddly the Porsche is sporting Sumitomos at the moment.

If you're mostly weekday commuting on surface streets and the occasional highway run, the Sumi's are a great value for how you use the car, IMHO

Another Sumi fan here based on the way I drive my car and where. I am the first to admit Michelin makes fantastic tires for the 993 but the wear rate hurts $. Also put the Sumi's on my wife's '05 Boxster S and I am very impressed with them on that vehicle so far as well.

Very happy with MIch Pilot Super Sports. For a 265, tread spec is almost 3/4 of an inch wider than the Sumis.

Default Yoko's

i run AD08R's. no complaints other than the spike it got in them. they ride just as nice as my PS2's and they stick.

Another vote for the Yokos AD08 and the Michelin as well. I'm on my first set of AD08s on my 993 and they're amazing. They have every bit as much grip as the Michelins (if not more), which I currently have on my M5 and have had a couple sets on my 993 and my old 1984 3.2L.

Bridgestone S04 PP. Same sizes as you. $750 for all four last time I purchased. Great in wet and dry.

I currently have Michelin PS2s on my 993 that need replacement. My drive is about 80% open highway and just couldn't justify the Michelin's price for what I do. After hours of reading I'm going with the Sumi HTR IIIs.

Damon from Tire Rack says they are extremely popular with 911 guys and in his words - they are 90% of the Michelin tire for half the price.

I'm moving from Los Angeles to Croatia in February and currently have the Yokohamas and they're a great value, but in Croatia it tends to rain a lot more and the roads are actually better than LA but a lot twists and I drive my 993 like I stole it. Any recommendations on a good wet weather tire with decent wear rate and good grip qualities?

Josh, and others running AD08s, I have heard good reviews with reject to grip, is noise a factor?

Any dislikes?

I've not noticed any additional noise, but my 993 is much louder than stock overall these days, so ... maybe? Can't say.

They might grip better than Michelins in dry conditions (too close to tell), but I haven't really tested the Yokos in the wet. I can say that the wet weather performance of PS2s is best in class.

I totally forgot I switched from Yokohamas to the Generals, and the Generals are really good. Think I'm going to get these again since they're made for all seasons.
