Would you trade your 993 for a F355?
#2
I would...
When I was buying my 355 I was also looking for 993.
The 355>993 no question.
Sorry but it is so.
This is perfect timing to replace your 993 with a 355.
That said,,, I am dying to buy a 993 or 964 now that I have a 355.
The 355 is more rare, faster, more attractive, screams like nothing else, the driving pleasure is amazing, and despite what people say it is rock solid.
Downside is the maintenance cost. The engine out is costly but it is worth it for sure.
Also, I'm sure in 10 years it'll be worth much more than it does now.
Just my 2 cents

like every other kid in the room i have spent hours googling the 'best ferrari under 100K articles' or the "best ferrari under 150K' etc, etc. The problem is pretty much no matter the model you decide you lust after you can find articles like this...

if you have unlimited resources then no worry.. but its hard to consider parting with the 993 which has pretty much only given me pleasure (ok there was that one breakdown) .... for something that seems to be more of a hassle ? and yet..soooooooooo pretttyyyyyyyyyy to look at.

I can tell you that I think they are equally attractive. However, I don't think the 355 has same attraction. I was at a Ferrari event and it didn't stand out at all. It was either the new models or the 60's -70's models.
As my son says, they pop up headlights screams the 90's techno.
I would own one, but the cost of ownership keeps me away.

Definitely not.....a Ferrari, as beautiful and as fast/rare as they may be is in no way a vehicle as a Porsche is. I have driven Ferraris and know a few people that own them.....to their credit, they are a frantic, fun ride with an amazing sound track. The problem is I actually drive both my 911's and as much of "an occasion" it would be to take my Ferrari out, in the real world I likely wouldn't have confidence to take her out on a 2500 mile trip like I did with the 993 this spring. This is how I use my cars, honestly I've never met or heard of any Ferrari owners that use them in that way. Fact is, I don't think many get beyond 30k miles on them before they become true garage queens. The question is do you want to drive or simply own? Cheers

I think I'd trade for my 993 but immediately sell it and go find a 993 turbo. I'm assuming that the Ferarri is worth more than my 993 in this scenario. No way I'd keep the Ferarri. I once went for a spin in a 355 cabrio and although it was very quick and the sounds were great, I just couldn't get over the fact that the instrument cluster reminded me of a 1980s era American car. Absolutely horrible and cheap looking. I was surprised and disappointed.

I loved the 355 and the 993.
In the 1990's, i really lusted for 355.
Now i am totally 993.
The 355 just hasnt aged as well as the 993.
Besides, the 993 is easy to live with and drives really well.
Id take a 355, but im not hunting for one and i wouldnt pay big money for one either.

I'm a huge fan of the 355. A GTS or a Cabrio would be the ideal RWD complement to my 4S. It's a very different design philosophy. I DD my 993, and would never do it with a 355. That rules out the exchange. But as a complement, I cannot think of a better car.

It's obvious most on this board has never driven the 355. I personally think it's a timeless design and one of the most beautiful ferraris ever. That is of course personal taste. You obviously must think it's pretty since you are considering the replacement. Go drive one or even ride one and you'll never look back. The 355 is better than the 993 in every department. True, most people don't drive ferraris often because they are afraid of losing $$$ because of miles. Don't be afraid to drive the 355. Driving the Porsche is such a regular part of the day. Driving the Ferrari is an event. Comparing the 355 to 993tt is fair but 993 is ludicrous.
Get on ferrarichat.com ask the same question. I'm not sure where you are located. If you were near by I wouldn't mind giving you a ride. I'm sure you are far away from ND as most reasonable people are
Like I said get on fchat I'm sure someone will be happy to give you a ride so you can experience it for yourself.
When you are ready to replace your 993 I might buy it from you if it's a fair deal
The 355 and a air cooled Porsche is part of every perfect garage.

^ Stunning car! I have also driven and lusted after a 355 for a very long time. The 993 and 355 are not comparable. 100% agree that a 993 while fun to drive is not an event. I love my 993 but driving a manual 355 is an experience I won't soon forget and when I have the means I will pull the trigger on one but I will keep my C2 as well.

That looks sharp.
In fact the only car I ever liked the duck tail is the993.
You know how it is the other side of the fence always look sweeter. When I get me an aircolled Porsche I think I will feel I have a complete collection. I'd love a 993 or a 964 but can't afford it yet. Nevertheless, I'm still shopping
