Have any of you ever replaced that gas struts that hold up the hood? The ones on my car no longer hold up the hood and I thought it would be a quick fix, but the struts are connected pretty deep in the engine bay. What parts of the engine do I need to remove to access the part easily? At my first pass, it looks like just the airbox and the blower. How difficult is it to remove the blower and what pitfalls should I watch out for?

None to remove. It's a simple pin and clip, but requires to be done blindly. It took me good 30min to get the new struts in. Hardest part was aligning the holes to get the pin through.
One trick I read is to tie fishing string or dental floss to pin/clip so if you drop them you don't lose it.

Make sure to grab a few of your wife's best bath towels and lay them out beneath where you're working in the engine bay left and right. You will drop the pins and clips.
You'll want to take the air box cover and filter out of the way on the RH side.
A bit of sticky synthetic grease on the pin helps to sticky it in place as well. Easy job but make a chiropractor appt for the next day......

Get the correct ones for your model. Some places sell one strut for all 993s. The fact is they have different ones depending on your model of 993.

Cheater note: sometimes after you replace one side, that may be enough to keep that decklid up nice and sturdy. And if it is (and you're tired/lazy ...hey, I resemble that remark
), make a note of which you replaced and be done with it. FWIW, I "bought" a few years with having replaced just one side ...just sayin ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
BTW, I've got to do this very thing now for the front. Let's see what the dice will say![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I replaced mine and the lid would open all the way by itself when the latch was pulled. It would have been a bad place for a cat to be napping.
They have softened a little since then but are more than adequate to hold up the lid.
