Post NSX vs. Porsche

A week ago I went to the Porsche dealership to buy a loaded 01 C2 Coupe; my 2nd P car. There was a 2000 NSX parked to it. Red and Tan 3.2 I sat in it and drove it. I sat in the C2 and drove it and said, "GEE there wasn't much difference between the C2 and my company car"- a Ford Taurus. I immediately bought the NSX. Florida's I-4 is my daily work commute. I was at the normal fast lane speed of 80 mph when a Mustang GT started playing tag. I down shifted to 3rd and took it to 8000RPM's and up to 6th gear and cruised at 140mph. The NSX was on rails. Off ramps at 90 to 120mph are cake! Everyone wants to get it on when they see it. Kids faces light up at red lights. People stare at it at it and visit it in the parking lot. That never happened with my Porsche. Porsche is awesome but the NSX is another world. I now tell people that I bought a HONDA! Rennlist member, too!

I really used to love the styling of the NSX. One of my neighbors 4 doors down had a red one too! That was back in 1992. The thing is, it looked very cool back then, but the NSX hasn't changed much and the back end doesn't look balanced to me now, like a 911 looks so perfectly balanced. I'm not putting down your car, I just really love the timeless look of the 993, whereas I don't find the NSX to be a timeless look.

Yet, sometimes when I see one coming towards me on the road, it really knocks my socks off visually. It's so sleek and angular. It's just that squarish rear end that I have problems with. Glad you're enjoying yours. Red is definitely the best color for that car.

Peace,
Steve

Like Greg I'm totally impressed!

Do let us know when you sell your existing P-car so we can celebrate with you.

To be honest with you all- I love the front of the car the best and kinda pretend for a second that it's a F40/Mclaren/ Saleen. But still a Porsche is a Porsche and it is timeless; but for now I know people are loooking in their rear view mirror and say'n "what's that coming"? Thanks for letting me share. By the way I'm 48 years old and still a KID about cars! Yeah!

Ford Taurus??? I'd tell the company to keep that and pay for my own car.

Like I said, "Porsche is awesome" but that was my real reaction from going to the low posture NSX lay-out to the C2. It's just a different ride. If you get a chance-drive one. In any case, my Lord Jesus Christ is the best part of my life! Peace to all!

While the basic 911 lines have remained unchanged for 40 years, ok 32 years before the intro of the 993, how many years has a 911 model gone before a facelift?

The NSX has basically gone unchanged for the last 12 years. It was cutting edge at the time and still looks great. That, to me, is timeless. Try lining up a stock 91 NSX next to a stock 91 964. Which one looks timeless?

The NSX is a great car and one I would probably consider if I could only have one car. However, the NSX is not a Porsche.

I have some first hand knowledge on this debate. I owned an NSX for 5 years and then sold it and bought a 993TT. Got to say, the NSX is a marvelous car. Fast, great handling, super comfortable, and costs the same as an Integra to maintain. However, it could use about 100 more hp. I can't see paying 90 large for a new one. That's why they only sell a couple hundred of them a year now. The TT, what marvelous acceleration! It just brings smile to your face everytime you drive it. They're really different cars, each being superb. I'd have to say I prefer the 993, a timeless design and will continue to age gracefully.

Looks like you need to find a NSX discussion forum! <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

There are two of them at my office parking lot. An older red one and a newer yellow that is still on lease. The red car is early 90's and the owner also has an '89 911. The NSX is his daily driver. He states he would never sell. The yellow car is owned by a former loyal Porsche owner. He has stated that in 12 previous years of p-car and other years of Corvette ownership the NSX is the best car he has ever owned. I understand the new design is due soon and will include more HP, as this is a commonly criticized deficiency. Clearly the shape of future cars is like the Audi TT if you look at the car magazines. The 993 is far more compatible with this appearance than the McLaren look of the NSX. This is really timeless in my opinion! Good luck.

Have to say I do love the NSX for the "sex appeal" and the sense of purpose when one first gets into it, with the low slung roof line, the raked back windscreen etc.

Would love to one day own one, but it would be alongside my 993....
