OT: Porsches and Pilots
When I bought my 993 a little while ago, I was talking to the salesman about being an airline pilot. He remarked, "We actually sell a lot of Porsches to pilots. Seems to be a popular car in that group!"
So, I'm curious... how many of you have made careers in aviation?

I flew a hang glider for 3 years in my mid forties. More buzz than a Porsche, but the landings got a bit rough. Nobody in their right mind would give me a license for any more. I understand the similarities of mindset for pilots and Porsche owners.

I used to fly, VFR only. I had a third interest in a nice Piper Turbo Arrow III with full avionics, 3 blade prop, HSI, etc. It was a nice bird and we kept it in first class shape. Enclosed hangar and all that. I gave it up because I just couldn't get enough justifiable time every month to feel expert. I made excuses to fly as much as I could but still had trouble trying to get 6-7 hours a month.
My neighbor is retired airline pilot. Has a 2002 996 Seal Gray Cab and a georgeous 1973 Targa with the ZZ4 Chev, 930 Transaxle, late model bodywork mods. It is impossible to sell but a first class car that draws attention at these show and shines. He's spent more on the Targa than what the 996 cost him.

I am in the process of selling a Porsche and I have received 2 calls in two weeks from pilots in different states interested in my Targa. It makes buying from out of state pretty easy. They fly in, check the car out and if it doesn't meet their expectations, oh well, back out on the next flight.

Wow!
Looks like that salesman wasn't that far off... there are plenty of us here. Part 91, 121, 135... and military guys too. I'm actually in fractional (the corporate airline job!)
I love my 993. It's fast, tight, built like a brick ____house, and makes me feel like I'm in a real machine, not just a car. I guess you can relate it to flying in that way.
All the things we'd love to be doing with the jet (but can't) we can do with the Porsche! Next best thing.
Anybody visit the www.flightinfo.com boards?
