Post Opinions on metallic Ocean Blue

I am looking at a 1995 coupe that is Ocean Blue. The pictures I have seen seem to reflect almost a blue/green tint in the sun. The picture is not a good one and so I am wondering about the color. I know we each have our own thoughts on colors but are there any thoughts on this color? Is it hard to keep clean? Thanks

Best there is. Varies from purple to dark blue, almost black, to blue green. I like it, obviously, that's what I searched for and bought.

this is an awesome color, IMO. This color shows swirls very easily.

Looks great.

We had it on my wife's boxster with dark blue top and interior.

That car got huge compliments.

I think in '95 it was Midnite blue metallic which has the purple tint, in '96 and later it became Ocean Blue with more of a green tint.

I personally have Midnite blue with Cashmere interior and blue top and think it is a great combination. Took a year search as I either wanted this color, or Polar silver with Lobster top and interior with very low miles. MB is not as difficult as black to maintain, but not as easy as other colors, like Polar Silver.

Purchased about 6 years ago, and no regrets about the MB color.

What I like best about the color is the different color tones in different lights.

Are you sure you are not describing Iris Blue Metallic?

I love the color, and think it looks great against my grey cab top and grey leather interior. I have seen it look purple, deep fabulous blue and black, depending on the light. I have not seen the green hue others describe but the sticker inside the fender says it's ocean blue metallic and it's a '97.

mo: Iris Blue, Midnight Blue and Ocean Blue are all different colors. They are all blue (Duhh) but have differnt highlights in differnt lighting conditions. My car is Iris blue and in some light it looks violet and blue mixed, in other light it just looks navy blue. If you look closely at the paint in these colors you'll see the metalic flecks are slightly different with the base color pretty much the same (iris and midnight). I'm not sure I've seen Ocean Blue.

RC, no, it's ocean blue. Predominant blue with some green in it (ie: like the ocean). But in different lighting situations (dusk, low light, cloudy days), it can look different. I love it.

Zaino (Z5) seems good for swirls.

I'm at Duke and a huge Duke BBall fan, so it had to be blue.

I vote for Zenith blue... Great color.

Anyhow... My pals have two Boxsters, one is Ocean blue, the other is Lapis. Both gorgeous.

I do not see any green in either of them though! <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/MikeandDadBox3.JPG" alt=" - " />

Here is a photo of Ocean Blue... OK so it is not a 993...

IMHO there is no green tint in this paint. I find the color varies from a dark blue to blue/purple to an almost black shade. Midnight Blue is a dark blue without any purple to it.

The color is gorgous but a real PIA to keep up (equivalent to a metallic black). I have used Zaino in the past to help reduce swirls, but I found it did nothing. Zaino is very reflective but lacks the depth of carnuba on darker colors. I changed my process to now include 3M swirl mark remover before Klasse and then a carnuba wax. No more swirls here... or at least a lot less.

Low lighting...

Direct lighting... The green you see here is the reflection of the grass.

Sloth:

There's some green on the top of the bumper in the bottom photo, above the rubber (right side of photo). Doubt the grass is reflecting up there! It's in there in certain lighting conditions.

I am not going to say that it is not there, but I have never noticed a green tint to my car. Certainly purple, but never green.

I do know that Porsche has two paint codes for Ocean Blue... perhaps one has a touch of green to it.

EDIT---&gt;
Looking at Yoseif's Boxster site, there is one Boxster there registered under Ocean Blue that seems to have a green tint to it...

Perhaps it is the camera?

I just went down to the garage to look at my car paint code L3AZ Ocean Blue Metallic. Definately a tint of purple at times, I have never seen green. As far as swirl marks go...I am a slave to them...although Zaino does help.
