Just a therapeutic rant
WTF is wrong with most people? Sorry, let me narrow it down a bit or we'll break the RL record for longest thread next to the "who has the coolest wheels" thread.
So I live in southern cal. Porsches are everywhere. I rarely drive mine except on maybe one afternoon about once or twice a month on a weekend.
Today I had some business so I thought I'd use the car and run it a bit. I had one clown pull alongside in his stupid fried egg headlighed 996 with 996 turbo wheels and x51 exhaust system running with headlights on. He catches up to me running about the speed limit on the 101 freeway then downshifts and floors it once alongside as if to send some kind of message about how cool his car is. No thumbs up or anything. Just some kook who thought he was so cool. Just lame. I wouldn't trade for TWO of his cars unless they were worth more and I could just get a nicer 993.
Then in town there was a senior aged version of the same clown in a brand new 991 convertible. Gets alongside me at a stoplight and we pull away but then he floors it only to cut in front of me and then immediately needed to hit the brakes for the cars stopped at a traffic light ahead.
Are these idiots trying to send a message that their cars are better or something? I really am quite content with my car and I'm not at all impressed. I see so many high end exotics every day rolling down the street by my office or in the parking garage that it just makes these guys' 996 and 991 seem about as impressive as a Honda Accord.
Our society is so full of douchebags it's ridiculous.
Well doctor, I see that our session is just about over. Thanks and I'll see you at the same time next week.

i don't get other 911 drivers behaving like goons; it's everything else that sees it and wants to have a go because they think every 911 is a dragster. no fool, this car is an athlete, not a one trick pony. nevertheless, i don't even acknowledge their presence/existence.
but to balance the equation, actually tip it the other direction, i get just as many thumbs up and appreciative comments in gas stations, at red lights, and parking lots. those people/comments far out number the nitwits.

Sadly there will always be lots of folks out there with the capacity to buy these cars, but not the capacity to truly understand or appreciate them. Fortunately most of them stick to BMW's. And as FLYT993 notes, there are plenty of thumbs up and appreciative comments at the gas stations and coffee shops. It's truly amazing how many nice people you meet driving these cars.

Just to add some salt to the wounds, we have come across "mutants" that get like $18k a month "Indian Casino" money for nothing. They have these cars they no idea how to drive and then "bling" the hell out of them. They drive like complete morons and don't care about the tickets because they get "free money" every month. One "compound" we did a search warrant on, had a half dozen cars that none of these gang bangers deserved. They use their "free money" to enterprise/finance huge dope rings. So instead of being satisfied with making over $200k annually (doing nothing) they make closer to a million, tax free. And the sheep voted to let these "poor misguided souls" out of prison, and even to reduce their crimes to non-booking offenses. If the average citizen knew the depth of fraud, corruption and violence that's amongst us, they'd freak. One of my partners said "hey that car's just like yours" (996), I'm like "not even close". Why'd you get me started, now I'm angry again!!!! :-). Oh, yeah. "Happy Mothers Day", where it pertains. Like my son (who I raised on my own) told me, "you have been both my Mom and my Dad for me". I understand that you are upset, but your statement is revealing arrogance on your part. As a former 993 owner, I appreciate the love you have for your car, but you don't have to put down other 911 iterations to make your point. After all the 996 doesn't get to choose its driver, and there are inane, immature drivers of any car.

(I am not exactly sure about the 911-to-356 thing, though. Even when I showed up on the scene in '80, there was the 356 crowd that refused to acknowledge 911s, and only partially accepted 912s. 914-6's seemed cool though. Go figure.)

Have to admit I was a little harsh with my comment of my younger brother in the 996. I probably would have admired the car had he not done what he did. In the end I ignored both of these guys and more or less just ranted here wondering why people act that way. They are entitled to enjoy their cars and I can't say they did anything risky to me or anyone else. It's like the guy who I once saw on the freeway with his brand new 997 when they first came out. I gave him the thumbs up. Car looked really nice. He had a huge smile and I think was actually bouncing up and down in his seat (literally) from either excitement or too much coke (classic or original I'm not sure). Can't say why he acted weird but whatever.....I still don't really like how 996s look!
