OP, to your question, "How much would I pay for a salvage title car"?

Nothing. I'd never buy a salvage titled car.

Anyone out there gotten rid of a car, only to see the price go up startlingly thereafter, compounding the angst of regretting the original sale or trade?

Yeah...me, too. About five times. Including my '96 C4S.
Just needed to get that off my chest, thanks.

I was looking at a Canadian 993...95MY...very very nice...and then I drove a tip down here and realized I wasn't going to be happy. But for the tip I would now own the car. But the seller had trouble getting offers over $26000...again and again. And the car was really nice. I think the Canadian location made it inconvenient and that hurt the price somewhat and the tip didn't help.

John I hope you will find a decent 993 within your budget. Lets not get into this again...

But let's assume for a moment that there's a market correction, you're really hoping for a $60K 993 will become a $30K 993? Really?

And who's to say you won't need this cash from your future Porsche to use for other things say like food, shelter, since it will have to be another 2007-2008 market crash to get values low enough for you again.

That's your plan? Good luck.

BTW, anyone out there with a Turquoise Blue (Martime, Mexico, etc., I'm not picky) NB or S, when the market goes down 50% +/-, then PLEASE send me a PM. I have cash waiting for ya.
For context I am using a narrow body 95MY C2 w/ manual trans.

I think cars starting at $60k prices will all but disappear...$50k cars will drop to $45k and (depending on condition) some then slide down to $40k. And cars that startd in the high $30s to low $40s will drift down to the mid to high $30s. The least desirable will drop to the low to mid $30s. Salvage will be were it should be...$20k...maybe less for parts only. And some cars will be pulled off the market to wait for better prices to return.

Now those of you who bought your 993 because you love it and never plan on selling it, none of this should matter to you or even bother you. I am not making claims about how good the car is or how wonderful it looks...I'm just talking the movement of prices in a market influenced by other forces around it.

The car in the OP at $34k

Your view of the market doesn't match reality.
And that tells me that there are a lot of either greedy or foolish sellers. And not enough buyers to clear out the inventory of a very desirable car. And that means the pricing is too high. It was true at the dawn of time and it is true today.

Here are 11 completed sales of 993 narrow body coupes in the last month...actual sales not listings that just ended...sales. High was $44,900, low was $29,900, average was $36,009. Now someone has currently listed a 97 coup with 11k miles listed for $125,000. Just reality check time.

Now I am not a fan of the S models nor the 4 wheel drive nor cabs nor targas so that represents a large group of cars that I don't care what the price is.
And I specificly did not include those in the above numbers.

But again...why does the price matter to so many of you? You already bought your cars, you love them, you aren't planning on selling them...why are you so tense about price movements?

A lot of us are not used to seeing a car we own go up in price so find it hard to find our luck so changed.

Why didn't you buy the $29,900 car or any of them up to your $35,000 (or whatever) budget?

Right. I overpaid for one--the 4S w/ 100K on it in '04 for $40K. But it was a local, sport seat equipped aerokit car with a recent top end. BFD if I could have found similar for $3-4-5K less. That's found in the sofa cushion money.

I underpaid for the other--the faux RS. $40K (with easily $5K in spares) for a car that had $80K worth of mods thrown at it 5K miles earlier. But probably 15 guys from here hemmed and hawed, playing Goldilocks over the thing.

Oh, and my total time spent PPIing/negotiating over both was less than 15 minutes total.

Sometimes it seems like most of you guys don't have enough real world stuff going on in your lives.

I may have brushed by them because of asking prices I wasn't will to even consider. Perhaps I should have been more aggressive with the sellers. I'm certainly going to use these prices as real comps when I make an offer.

It really is about finding a car I really want...and now and then something I wasn't considering pops up and I have to wonder about it. That's how tip got ruled out. And if a targa or a cab really surprises me then I have to open up to considering them.

Yes, he sits on the sidelines quibbling over $5k at 72 yrs. old.

You sir, will go down with the ship while you wait for the lifeboat to get just a little bit closer....

This tells me he cannot afford the service it will require.
