Post Radar bands...which still in use?

Have the Bel-980 detector (ok, not V1, but bought it same day bought my 993, so I felt poor).

Anyway, X chirps obviously, all over the place. K & Ka beep only when serious. My question is...do any cops still use X? Is it ok to just turn off the X band?

I'm in California, if that makes any difference.

Thanks,

CHP uses Ka. Local cops use either Ka or K. Ignore X. Good luck.

In NW indiana running up to Chicago, IL I have seen those roadside signs that measure your speed using X,patrol cars using X, K and Ka, and occasionally my V1 cuts loose with this strange warbling that indicates laser.

Or short answer: all of them

I read an article somewhere (of course I can't find it now) that stated that the X band was virtually unused for speed enforcement anymore. I think it would have to be a very old radar gun....

I've turned off the X-band in both my passport and my V1. GREATLY reduces false alarms....

massachusetts state trooppers, in their infinite cageyness, have gone back to mixing in some X band since they know most people (a) have detectors and (b) most people ignore X band.

have not seen laser here like i have in connecticut, though.

I'd keep all of them on. I have a Bel 980 and am really satisfied w/ it. It has saved my *** plenty of times.

Bought a Bel-890 a little over 2 yrs ago, same reason for not getting a V1 at the time (empty pockets). Anyway, in my experience (California only) X is not used by law enforcement, which is what I had read somewhere as well.
The problem with the lower end unit I have is that you cannot disable the X band warnings which happen when passing almost every shopping area. Sort of learned to live with it because the K and KA band warnings have saved me many times. Was especially effective on a trip up and down i5 to the bay area.
I would check to see if your 980 has a feature to turn off X band.

I heard just today that a new band is on its way in CA. Anyone know of this?

Another good aspect of the V1 - when technology changes you just send it back and get it upgraded.

X-band is still in use. I was traveling in eastern NC boonies - taking kids to camp - and yes, I had a V-1 so I saw the bands light up.

Was shocked when X went lively, then saw NC state trooper heading towards me. Saw this happen several times.

Don't believe for a minute that it is not out there...it's just dependent on the trooper's equipment.

My suspicion is that in primarily metro areas you will not find much X in use, but in the remote or rural areas you may.

Stay alert.

X is still used in New Jersey. I frequently drive between upstate NY and Long Island. Every once in a while the X warning is real.
