Planning for an LSD
Fresh off my latest project, and I am planning my next: a regear and an LSD. The regear has been discussed ad nauseum, so I wont raise it here as there are more than enough resources. However, for an LSD, I find myself with a question: how aggressive would you recommend? I plan on some track time, but not have a dedicated track car.
^^^^ Yeah. And Steve Weiner. But basically you only need one if your driving style + use on limit warrants it.
(I used to be on the same second between identical customer, but LSD equipped RS America and open diff 964 C2 way back when. Yes, the RSA had a stock LSD--nearly 25 years ago we didn't have many choices. Wish we had data back then to show how brave we were using a trailing brake. Or thought we were......)

Well here is the deal. On several occasions I have noted loss of traction under spirited driving and I have two thoughts on this: 1) I can fix this with a LSD, or 2) its a suspension issue and can be fixed by updating my stock anti-roll bars to M030 or RS units.
This is my first Porsche and I am in the discovery phase. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Karl,
The Guard Clubsport LSD @ 40/60 is perfect for your needs.
I would make sure you have sufficient suspension droop travel because if you don't, no LSD can compensate for an inside wheel/tire getting lifted off the ground.

Steve installed the Guard 40/60 after we spoke extensively about the gear and LSD choices. I have one season on the new regear/LSD and like the combo very much. Talk to Steve...
For many years I ran without an LSD and my car was a dedicated track car. The suspension can make a huge difference to how the car feels. I had many Porsche Instructors ride along with me and were all surprised when I said I didn't have an LSD.
The LSD in our cars provides the most significant impact under braking, stabilizing the rear end of the car allowing you to diving deeper into the braking zone. If you are doing only a couple of days a year, you may not get the full benefit from it...
Now from a price perspective, adding an LSD at rebuild time is the best time to do it as everything is out and on a bench.
As many have suggested the 40/60 is a great unit and one that is the mainstay of the 993 community...

Anyone have an opinion on the OS Giken, there are some around here who like it a lot. Very durable and tunable.
