rl'ers, i've had my car now for 8 years and have put tens of thousands of miles on her (and recent values notwithstanding, i don't give a "F" about the miles, i bought the car for MY enjoyment). she has been dead reliable. never left me stranded. always starts. and i don't baby her. she's a performance car so she gets asked to perform....frequently. that's not to say there haven't been issues, the thing is 20 years old. and i've spent $$$ in maintenance (gotta learn to wrench myself, probably could have saved myself 10k in labor charges). nevertheless, with the spate of issues that come up on this board, i thought i'd throw one in in the opposite direction, because these air cooled 911's aren't just gorgeous, they are dependable too.

I have to concur. My 993 is dead reliable as well. I don't drive it hard, but I do drive it. It's nothing for my wife and I to put on 1200-1500 miles in the summer. My first trip was driving from TX to WI after purchasing. I didn't really know anything about the vehicle, but it started and ran perfectly during the entire drive. Driving through state after state, I realized that I could always depend on it. I do maintain it to a extremely high degree now (sometimes replacing parts just because their old). But, for a 20 year old vehicle, I find that just amazing.

2 years, 11k miles, zero issues.
Costs: two oil changes, air filters, 3 brake fluid flushes (all DIY) and a set of tires. But when engine comes out for new clutch and while in there items, it will get pricey.

Also have put 8 years/50K+ miles on my car, including a little track. At 140K now. Other than a couple of window switches, it's all been mods and maintenance, no repairs. Like owning a Toyota.

Once I put an extra DME relay in the door pocket and a set of belts in the Frunk and a few added tools to the tool wrap, I can say on the very rare occasions when things do go "dead" I can reliably get back on the road without a costly professional intervention!

I've just done basic maintenance. Fluids, filters, and last week was 2 new post cat O2 sensors. As an FYI, generic Bosch sensors work fantastic if you can do basic soldering.

Bought mine with 109k miles on it, everything stock, including hideous original plug wires and fan. After some wrenching of wear parts, I have put 17k mile on her, including 500+ miles at TWS. It does not miss a beat and has taught me more about driving than any other car.

Outside of routine maintenance, in the 14 years I've owned my car (-63K mikes), the only parts that needed replacement were a broken window switch and a leaking AC line.
