Starbucks apparently does not have an exclusive on selling 69 cents of a fluid for $2.50.

Then don't even calculate Coke or Pepsi.

If you really want to blow your mind, calculate cost-in-use for iced tea at your local diner.

This sums it up pretty well, trying to get classic Porsche owners to get their cars back into Porsche workshops:

Bye bye $$$

Don't get me started:
How about nail polish remover (lacquer thinner) or windshield washing fluid or deodorant jell?.
I once did the calculated markup on electrical spade connectors at Radio Shack, 40,000% markup. Woha, we all need to come up with something to sell like these.
Maybe that is why there are so many brands of shampoo?
Andy :-)

I've never seen two seemingly intelligent dudes talk for that long without saying ANYTHING valuable.

It's an excellent business concept, knowing that there is such a large population of owners/enthusiasts continuing to maintain their older products. Enthusiasts will pay a premium for original parts, and as mentioned before, it will drive traffic into their dealerships.

I can't tell you how many times I paid hugely for crappy NLA parts for my old VW's just to keep them 'like new' as much as possible. I would have sent VW Christmas cards to start producing Corrado parts again!

Having said that, I'm more likely to buy their original trim parts etc because of the perfect match and fit, where oil is something I'm very comfortable at sourcing from another supplier.

Anyway - the best learning I took away from the vid was to change your oil before winter storage instead of in the spring. Makes sense and I never really thought about the reasons why that's better to do.

I only made it through the first minute or so.... maybe it got better later on... but from the comments above, it sounds like my initial assessment was correct.

Very Disappointed in PCA and PCNA to a lesser extent for pushing this in this way....

Porsche Classic oil is a really cool nostalgia product. Cool can, cool concept... I get it, there is a market for it...
… But ..
To come off and tell me its "special" oil with "special" ingredients is pure BS. You can sell me in two ways. 1) Demonstrate to me how your product is better in some measurable way. OR 2) Sell me on the cool factor. Otherwise don’t insult my intelligence.

To come off and tell me its "special" oil with a heritage is pure BS. Oil is an engineered product. Talented engineers evaluate the pros and cons of the ingredients and come up with a best compromise for the intended use. This is science, not heritage, bespoke, or a barn find.

1) Demonstrate to me how your product is better in some measurable way.
OR
2) Sell me on the cool factor.

Really? This is the same outfit that pushed the M1 0w-40 API-SM product in air-cooled engines for the past 10 years.

I wrote some comments about the Porsche Classic oil on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Renns...?ref=bookmarks and look at the February 27th post.

No surprises here; Porsche is an effective and very efficient marketing machine. While they build some stunning cars, they have compromised their integrity in the pursuit of money.

I can’t believe I’m not friends with you on FB....

Just read your post… well said, well written…. I really wish you would come out and say “The oil to use is x”.. but if you ever decide to do that, let me know first so I can buy some stock in their company 

Steve Weiner will recommend 3 oils for your 993

Motul 15W50
Brad Penn 15w50
Mobil V-Twin 20w50

This is well documented here on Rennlist. No secret.

I hope I have the first 2 viscosities right. Please check.

Me neither. Go for it!

Actually, I have written those recommendations both on our FB pages and in our own Forums.
