10 litres, give or take, both filters, tank, crankcase and feed oil line drained. Keep it on the lower part of the dipstick, there is a tendency for these engines to burn oil when the oil is close to the top. Oil also expands on heat, so you will notice a difference in level from a warm engine to a hot one - a thing to keep aware of on the track.

The line is very easy to remove and the o-rings as Mike said are reusable. I changed them last time just for drill.
Very easy...and I'm an average mechanic at best.

I think the point I am making is not if its possible, but why would anhyone skip the chance to dump more oil ?- I get a good 1/2 litre out of removing that line.

I get your point.

With 3-5k mile intervals, and lack of proper garage, I'd rather keep it as simple and clean as possible. But that's just me. I found removing the line and putting it back a pita. I'm sure second time around I can get better at it, but it just creates a mess.

If you tp the oil filter, you will have a mess. The oil coming out of the line is much more manageable IMHO.

Whatever works for you. All I was saying is that you can get small filter out without disconnecting the line and it's not as hard as it seems at first with proper oil wrench.

Different people gave different tools and tricks to get the job done.

I like it except I would put a valve at the end of the filling hose for emergency shut off.

I do like the idea of a hose from large container with shutoff... And cracking a beer early in the process.

Why bother? 11 quarts of oil, 2 filters and $30 to the mechanic. Done. No mess, no fuss.

Because a mechanic may not change out the small filter and cross thread the plug. You would never know and it may not matter to you but it does to some of us.
