993 tranny removal

You have Rennsport, Steve Weiner, right there in Portland, a great resource. I got sucked in a bought the CD for about $50....not worth it, I feel I was hosed. The printed factory shop manuals are the only way to go...$350, actually $400 since I wasted $50 on the CD.
The tranny will come out without dropping the engine, if you have the correct jig. I saw this done on my car....while you have the tranny out, replace that dual mass with a light weight wheel, and what the heck, call Gert in Belgium http://www.carnewal.com and order the 993 RS tranny. It is a close ratio transmission, very sweet....just trying to help!!!

Hmmmmm .... aren't the manuals on CD simply the shop manual (hard-copy) that has been scanned into an Acrobat Reader (.pdf) format? Also, I believe there's a statement in the CD version, saying something to the effect that it's only a back-up to your paper copy, and that you're only authorized to have the CD if you already own the hard-copy.
Maybe I'm confused here?

There are 2 CD's. One is called the PET CD, which is the porsche electronic parts catalog. It contains diagrams and part numbers.
The other one is what you are talking about. Somebody just copied the workshop manuals into pdf format and burned a CD.
I believe that both versions are probably illegal. The PET CD is only for dealers, and the pdf workshop manuals are not authorized by porsche, AFAIK.

How about adding a short shift kit as well?
Also, I don't know what year your car is, but for the TT, there were differences in the 1st gear material. In the 96, it is easier to warp this gear than in the 97. I don't know if that applies to your case, and I don't know if the RS transmission fixes this, but I'm just throwing it out there for you.
Steve is a great guy to work with, makes me want to live in Portland sometimes.
Many people on this board, including myself, have tried to talk him into starting a shop down in the Bay Area. That would be AWESOME!

Hey Ken,
Try sending an E-mail to Dave Edwards = dwe8922@yahoo.com . He recently DIY'ed a clutch replacement on his '95, and may be of great help. Think he even took pictures ...
Best of luck!

Also, take a look at the www.pca.org classifieds. I got a set for $175.
eBay is pretty much a crap shoot. I've watched a few on eBay and they have been bidded all the way up to $300 some times, and as low as $150 also. You can get them new for about $350 at www.my-porsche.com. I've heard some mixed things about those guys, I guess that happens when you are the only game in town.

ps, love these smileys!

Hey Ken,
One more thought ... do not forgot to do what's highlighted in the below photo, when your clutch is replaced. Several of us (me included) have had to get premature clutch jobs because this wasn't done. Corrosion on the the input shaft leads to a sticking-in-gear problem, as the clutch disc center and input shaft bind.
If you get a hold of David, he'll tell you the same. A sticking-in-gear problem is why he had to pull his transmission.
