Repainting (Part 2... or "speed yellow at heart"...
My car is now back. The inside and underside have been painted. The mechanical parts will be built in again. Next week the car goes to a body shop to be displayed and then to be repainted. (Guess about 2-3 weeks to go)...

No, they didn't. Would have cost me even more and I thought it did not make sense. I never intend selling the car. I just wanted it to be speed yellow everywhere where visibile...

Gert,
Hate to admit, I am not really that much of a purist...
(I do have a sun roof, A/C, airbags and GPS). I see it more as a project car to please me. I was particularly interested in hp. It should be better than an RS, because in addition to being RS specs, it has mechanical valve lifters, chip tuning and sport cats.

If the car in person looks anything like the pictures, at first glance the silver appears like exposed aluminium. In the first photos that you posted in "Part 1" I thought the body was already stripped. Then I remembered the car was originally silver. I think it would be interesting if there were still out-of-the-way or covered up areas that were silver/clearcoat because it would appear as if it were an aluminum accent or a pristine non-painted surface!
Maybe in person it would look out of place, but that just struck me looking at the pics. It sure looks like a lot of work for the paint job - great to see they're doing it right!

993RS - looks great, even as a 2-tone. Who is doing the work? You're a braver man than I though. Having just had my creaky windscreen fixed and kindly replaced by a vibrating front brake system by my local OPC you can imagine my confidence levels when it comes to their ability to take the whole car apart then put it back together without having a few parts 'left over'
If they do it right first time I may think about taking my car there for servicing even if they are only a body shop.

Nice wheels. Will seriously consider. (I never want to do too much at a time though... It extends the pleasure indefinitely. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />
The mechanical work is being done by the Swiss Porsche dealer (AMAG). The paint job is being done by a specialist called Sahli here in Zürich. He specializes in restoring vintage Ferraris.

Kim,
Do you have more pictures of that car? I'm especially interested in the tail.
If you have more (&higher res pictures), please email them to me directly at rfairweather@indy.rr.com.
Thanks much.

Wow what an awesome project. I missed the starting chapter though. Why would someone paint an entire car, r & r all the components versus purchase of an existing car of the desired color? I think it looks great, just seems like the $$$ would lean toward buying new/used vs repaint of different color?

Keith,
If you look on my home page you will see I have been doing an endless number of modifications on this car. It started as a stock '95 993 and is now mechanically a 993RS. (No weight reduction done or planned - I see it as a comfort version...). The car will not only be repainted, it will have all the old rubber parts replaced with new ones when remounting the chassis. This will give me practically a new chassis. Since the car has been dismantled, am also doing mechanical preventative maintenance, as well as installing a single mass flywheel. For some one thinking of resale value, surely nuts, but in my case, lots of fun. Have been progressively changing something on the car over a period of 5 years.
