Hi I have a factory aero coupe. I was thinking of buying a normal engine lid to replace the aero lid with the huge tail. Is my car missing the equipment to raise and lower the tail on the normal lid?
Will the car overheat if the lid constantly stays in the lowered position?
Aero tails capture their own air, but if you're converting to OEM decklid you definitely want the grill raising at 50 MPH to maximize air cooling at higher speeds.
Forgot to mention, the decklid wing motor has a harness that plugs right into the engine compartment. Here's a photo of the OEM decklid being restored on my C2S. Note the harness dangling on the right side. It's plug and play!
OEM decklid being restored - note harness on the right
Here's a shot of the old GT2 Tail (waiting for track days). Note the scoops on the sides for catching air.
So my engine bay has a spot to plug in the wing harness for a stock lid?
My console does have the button to raise and lower the tail manually but obviously I cannot do that..
Question: Is my car missing the equipment to raise and lower the tail on the normal lid?
If you have a factory Aero kit, then yes the motor parts are not there.

No the fan in the engine compartment draws the air and blows it through the engin cylindars and out under the car. The grill above is open and provides a source for this air in the up and down positions.
You will also need to wire in the switch in the console, as well as the spoiler module under the dash...Not sure if cars with aero packages had those prewired... The spoiler motor is controlled by the spoiler module
I purchased a aerokit 1 complete spoiler/decklid from the original owner and the car came with the aerokit tail installed. He replaced with a standard motorized decklid and the harness and connector was there. Look on the right side upper of your engine compartment.

To answer your your overheating question...I have a switch installed to control the decklid raising and lowering and very seldom raise it. I've not seen any difference in oil temperatures while going down the highway with the spoiler down.

Anyone in need of a complete 1996 OEM motorized lid assembly. It is painted Arena Red and is in excellent condition. PM me and I can send pictures, etc. Make offer, buyer pays shipping.
Nealf2002,
Did you ever do the conversion to a normal engine lid? I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my 96' that has an original factory aero kit. My concern is, will the motorized wing actuall work in my original factory aero kit car or will I need to do some additional wiring?
