To further explain what's done and how very simple the so-called "performance tune" is,
a very good analogy is like basically just changing cell values in an Excel spreadsheet.
As an example, at 4K RPM the cell value may have been 28 degrees at a certain engine
load, and now gets changed to 30 degrees. These values are changed over various
operating conditions. It's as simple as that. There's no new OS as the ECM has no typical
OS but just a control program like one would find in your PC printer or scanner.
Yes exactly thank you. Now would you not agree that it is possible to improve overall performance of these devices with updated firmware.

Yes, I would not agree!

Bottom line: There is no real overall improvement when one needs to increase the
required octane and if the increased required octane is NOT used less "performance"
will result. If this type of mod were really beneficial, then Porsche would have required
the use of a much higher octane ALWAYS and set the ignition timing accordingly.

Again, it's NOT updated firmware like when either iOS/Android or MS/OS is updated.
The firmware operates exactly the same as before, e.g. speed, functionality. The change
being made is a parameter change like minimum swipe speed in iOS or Android.

An analogous type of update for iOS/Android would require that the update needed
a larger internal battery to utilize the update and if the larger internal battery weren't
utilized less performance than previously experienced would result than with the original
battery.

Loren, its wonderful to see that 2015 hasn't tempered your ability to continue your rant. So I thought this is appropriate, congratulations!!!

No need for disrespect, Steven. Wasn't that your prior point to me?

The thing that Loren seems to ignore is that when building an oe map Porsche has more constraints than an individual seeking to improve performance, one such constraint is legislative, another is that the lowest common denominator must be met wrt to fuel quality and fuel economy.
