Default Help Please - Breather tube?

Hi Guys,

C2 hasnt been used for a few months. Flat battery. Took the battery out to charge and identified a clear plastic tube that is connected to the inside guard but not disconnected at the other end. looks like a drainage tube but I cant see the point or where it is supposed to drain too (other than onto the spare wheel well!).

The car is RHD so it may be on the other side for LHD cars. The clear tube seems to only be on one side of the car (passenger in my case). Unfortunately I didnt have the camera to take a pic.

Please help in letting me know if this should be connected to anything?

Cheers

Macca:

Sounds to me like its the battery vent tube.

Some batteries have a little vent fitting to route hydrogen gas generated during the charging process outside the trunk (boot).

I wouldn't worry about it if it is.

Thanks Steve. I think you must be right - I guess it wasnt connected to anything as the current battery (manufactured in 2000) doesnt seem to have the facility to let the battery breathe.

Thanks for taking the time to suggest an answer to my question.

Kind Regards

Macca,

Your battery is most likely a vented style that should have this tube connected. Look for a small palstic nipple or hole in the battery where a plastic nipple is missing.

The other end of the clear plastic tubing connects to a "tee" nipple that goes through the inner LH fender. Look near the little metal handle that locks and unlocks the headliamp assy. You should see a rubber grommet thru the inner fender with a nipple fitting.
