993 suspension advise
Hello, and a big thank you to all for such a great welcome to the forum....
I'm looking at getting some new struts for my 97' 993 targa and looking for some input. she has 130K on her and I have looked and she still has the original Monroe shocks and M032 springs by the color code..... you know all the U.S. height and stuff. so.... I was looking at the Bilstein b12 pro kit which seems to have bilstein hd shocks and Eibach springs which they say will lower 30mm front and rear so I guess that would put her back to euro spec height? RS spec height? . seeing if anyone has put this b12 pro kit on there 993 and what they thought of it. oh and she's my daily driver no track time, looking for a good setup that would preferably put her back to the height Porsche intended and perform well... appreciate any advise. thanks

There are hundreds of threads on this topic, so definitely spend some time searching.
I Recently went through the same thing on my 97 Targa. I decided on a very common setup of Bilstein HDs and M033 springs.
These springs are similar to the original springs, only shorter. These will put the car right at ROW sport height, all other things being equal. I really like the ride height, but some like it even lower, closer to RS. Good news is that you can go lower with the HDs because they are adjustable.
I'm happy with the HDs, but some say they make the ride a bit choppy. The Koni FSDs are a common replacement for the Monroes that should have a similar feel. The rears are not adjustable for height though. If I were to do it again, I'd probably try the Konis.

thank you very much, I will continue to read all the threads on the matter. I was initially leaning toward the hd's because of the adjustment threads on them, to get that proper height.
either way, I appreciate the info.

I lowered my old targa with M033 springs. That takes the car to Rest of World (RoW) ride height. I paired that with the Koni FSD's struts. This combination is sporty enough, but comfortable. I think correct on the Targa (many examples out there on the Targa).
Add front control arm bushings and a front strut tower brace (I think required on a targa) and you'll have it.

thank you all for the info, so from what ive heard the koni fsd is not as stiff as the hd's and the koni fsd are not adjustable and the hd's are adjustable but more for corner balancing.
- koni says they will only work with STOCK suspension and not lowered springs?
-so will the koni fsd work with m033 or m030? instead of my STOCK m032 springs?
- I'm not looking for RS height just the row euro height less than US.

The Koni FSDs will work well with the M033 springs and can be ordered as a kit from carnewal.com.
This should put your car at ROW sport height, (30mm below US standard, 20mm below ROW standard, but still 20mm above RS).

big thanks for the advise / carnewal.com
it seems the setup of m033 and koni fsd will work with what im trying to go for, row height and still a sporty feel from the koni fsd (I mean it will be a huge improvement over the original monroes with 130k on them)
- I see many others get stuff from these guys (carnewal) but... so one must get these all the way from Belgium (carnewal) no advisable places in the states for kit koni fsd and m033?
-also I know im probably being redundant but with the m033 putting her at row height , no need for bump steer stuff etc.. ? I guess what im getting at is the 993's geometry was designed to be at this row height even the u.s. spec one, so returning her to row height everything else just falls in place?
(except for alignment of course)
again big thanks to all.

Hi,
You don't need anything fancy and certainly bump steer will never be an issue provided you stay above RS ride height.
Geometry is not a problem from stock to RS ride height, either.
I'm not a fan of Koni so we use Bilstein HD's with either factory (ROW M030/ M033) or H&R springs. Good, well-made products with an excellent warranty.
