Default My first Porsche!

So tomorrow i'm off to the south of Sweden to likely buy myself my first porsche. It's a 993 c2 1994 with manual transmission, dark grey metallic and with black leather interior and with only 88000 km. I was always in the belief that my first porsche would be a 996 gt3, but i think a 993 will be a long life love and more capable of everyday driving.Owning a megane rs250 today ( great car) which i'll sell i'm hoping the 993 will add a lot more caracter and make me smile everytime i drive it.

So what was the main two or three reasons why some of you choose 993?
So wish me luck, and i'll post some pics tomorrow!

Congrats on your purchase and good luck. I look forward to your pics.

For me the obsession began almost 2 years ago when I was searching the web for suspension upgrades ideas for my '68 Mustang. I came across a forum discussing Bilstein coilovers, that website was Rennlist. I spent that better part of a "work day" reviewing 2 builds, the first was 9M and the second was by Juha G, after that I was hooked and the wife is pissed.

Nicely done... I was seriously considering a 996 GT3 before finding my 993. No regrets... I love this car!

Congratulations! I just got my first Porsche a few weeks ago and I've wanted one since I was a kid and my brother and I used to flip through copies of the DuPont Gallery (high-end auto trader magazine).

To me, a proper Porsche is air cooled and based on the 911 so that's what I wanted. Sure, maybe one day a used Cayman would make a great track-day car but this is going to be MY car. This is the car I will be driving for as many years as I can get out of it until it falls apart under me.

I looked mainly at the 964 and the 993, and in the end decided that the technological upgrades of the 993 were worth giving up the slightly more classic look of the 964. I mean, it's not like it can be mistaken for anything else on the road anyway After that it was just a matter of waiting for the right car to appear...

Be sure to post us some pics of your new baby when you pick her up!

+1.

You have made the right choice. You will never be bored for a moment driving this car. It's the perfect daily driver if the size of the car works for you. Enjoy it. I can't wait to see your pics of this beautiful and rare color 993. Congratulations.

What great news.
Mine was buying a bad 911e in 1998 I spent a long period restoring her and she was quite beautiful to look at. However I always clamoured for a car for everyday but one that fed back enjoyment when I wanted it. Everyone loved the old one but it wasn't easy to control or drive in heavy traffic.
I sold the older 911 but test drove a 993. Whoa what a difference. No rear end issues amazing power when pushed and to be honest quieter. Sorry but it's the best 911,it just is ,great choice.

Good luck with purchase, sounds like a nice car.

For me the three top reasons are:

1. Great fun to drive.
2. Aesthetically gorgeous. Those curves!
3. The most car I could afford at the time.

Bought my 96 in 1998 because it was my dream car as it still is. What my older friends tell me, if you ever sell it, make sure there is nothing left in the tank!!!! Drive it!!

Congrats, I picked up my first Porsche this spring too, I had always thought my first Porsche would be a 997. I never even considered a 993, as they are so rare where I live, and never see them for sale. I was lucky to have this 993 fall into my lap. I just love the way my 993 drives and sound, so much more involving than a 997. I believe a 993 is probably the best first Porsche for an enthusiast to own.

Congrats Patrick! Make sure you post lots of pics when you get the car. Hopefully all goes through as planned.

What brought me to a 993 (and another)?

1. I'd wanted a 911 since my uncle introduced me to the breed at the age of 12 (brand new 930 Turbo in 1983!).

2. The 993 was "the one" since it's introduction in late 1993. Just seemed so perfect. More curvy than standard 911s before it without being over the top. Hints of 959 in the front, wider rear fenders, 6-speed transmission, just seemed perfect at the time and, to me, still does.

3. I visited the factory in November 1995. 993 production in full swing with Turbos, C4Ss, RSs, and even a Speed Yellow GT2 buzzing around the factory alongside the "regular" 993s. I promised myself that I would have a 993 at some point.

Wow, thanks for all response!
I'm currently on the train heading south so in five hours or so i'll se it in real life. I have some pictures but i can't seem to post them through my iPad/iPhone 4s. Help please?
I've done some serious research what to check/look for so i'm hoping i won't get to carried away by emotions seeing it. :-)

Feeling like a little boy in a toystore!
