Goes well with that interior, very nice. Excuse my rookie question but what are these for? How do they compare to Golden Rod? Pros/Cons? Is it just a short shift or is there more to it?

Looks like you have to cut the center console at the back of the shifter... A little too "racy" for a street car for my taste.

I have one in my 07 RS
Great shifter
Two biggest advantages that I see
1. Self centering spring greatly reduces chance of a mis-shift
2. Shift **** closer to steering wheel - without increasing shift throw

I have had stock, CMS Shifter, and now CAE
I bought mine from Adam at Hard Motorsport - no affiliation, just a smooth transaction

Looks like the Alien is popping out of the car. Will spare you the pic.

I'm digging this shifter. Could totally eliminate all my ergonomic issues with the OEM shifter.

Pretty nutty for a street car, but I can easily see it in a track/race car. That said, I've never missed a shift with the 993, and I still have the OEM, non-short shifter.

I've never missed a shift either, but there's plenty of room for improvement in the OEM shifter setup. And why be scant in the solution? I tend to like cars with a track flavor to them anyway.

You had 915 training. I think the attitude toward 911 shifting is directly related to whether you've come up through the generations.

(Hilariously now, I bounce between the cable shifter of the Turbo, and a '98 F150 with a 5-speed.)

After driving a 915 box, almost any other transmission seems like a piece of cake.

Sort of. I had my 3.2 Carrera for less than a year and sold it after I missed a shift at Putnam Park, my first DE, barely avoiding a 3rd to 2nd money shift by quickly declutching. It was the first time in 26 years of driving that I had ever missed a shift, so I quickly realized how sloppy the transmission was and how inexorably I was traveling on the-path-to-an-engine-rebuild.

Taking it you didn't have any time with a tail shifter 901 that came in the early 914s.

When I finally got into a 915 box'd car (the guy who sort of guided me on engine build #1 had a 2.8L in a '72), I couldn't believe how perfect it shifted.

Back to the tail shifters, and money shifts. My one customer back in the Phoenix days had a 914-6 with a 2.7 "RS" engine, plus he ran it on bias ply cantilevers. Had it set up I guess about as best you could, and neither of us had a problem.

Mark, nice to see you post. Come on out to the track. I need someone to learn to drive from. The 964/RSA guys are too darn fast for the 993 pig.

I just got the trans refreshed with new 2nd gear and 2-5 steel synchros. It shifts great, but at SP, I think 2-3 up shifts at T1 and T6 cost me about 1s/lap due to slowness of shifting while turning due to driver/shifter position. I have bought a Hargett Pro Shifter already, but this looks interesting based on install in the stock position without a lot of cutting of the tunnel for rod alignment.
