Downgrading my 993 for a Macan S
First of all, I'd like to say this Forum has been extremely helpful, without it I would not have been able to gain knowledge to be able to find my perfect 993 and fix all the little things myself (my wife disagrees, she thinks a perfect car should be trouble-free).
I have had my 1997 Pastel Yellow 993 Tip with 25K miles for 1.5 years after a long search, and every day has been a joy since. Even on days I do not drive it, just looking at it gives me a smile on my face. But I now have a new addition to my family which requires me to get a bigger car, so I'll be "downgrading" to a Macan. Unfortunately I can't keep my 993 as I live in Tokyo and have space for only 1 car.
Since Macans will not be delivered to Japan customers until later this year, I still have a few more months with the dream of my life. I know that I will regret letting my 993 go but hopefully, I will have an opportunity to own it again in future.
Thank you all for creating this GREAT forum, you guys are the best!

Well, not downgrading but just trading off. 993 will not decrease in value, but Macan will as soon as you take its possession. That's life, but Macan is still so cool and proportional.

With parking at such a premium and a young family, makes perfect sense. Perhaps later in life a 993 will come your way. At least you got to enjoy one for a while. The new Macan is a pretty cool looking vehicle and much more practical given your current status. Enjoy!

I hear you, with the addition in our family the 993 C2S (with rear seat delete) was useless for us. It found a more appreciative owner, and the replacement Audi Q5 is fantastic.
Good luck with the transition

Thanks everyone. I have no choice but to let my 993 go now, but if my kid gets big enough to be able to sit in the back seat, I'll be in the hunt again. But the question is, would I be able to find the perfect 993 again? Also, at what price range would 993s be on market in say 2 to 3 years? With the recent huge increase in value of 993s, they might be way out of my reach when I'm ready next time.

Just a thought:
My sons never had an SUV or a minivan, as a teenager my oldest was 6 feet tall. They were happy to jamb themselves in the back seat of my 911 any day of the week over riding in our other car, a roomy Jetta. For this reason I suggest you give your 993 to your wife now!! As as soon as you do this it will no longer is viewed by her as "the other woman", she will take delight in your tinkering with it, and any designs she has on a SUV may simply evaporate! I hear all the time about guys selling off their sports cars when they get married, I never understood this. On trips where you really need the room you can always rent an SUV and in such cases you only have one car payment for that trip not 12 payments a year. The savings will pay for lots of family trips to Disney World, your future kids will love you for this!

I'm with others that posted earlier suggesting you find a good place to put the 993 into storage and hold onto it. If money is an issue, there are far cheaper choices than a Macan for a family wagon. Buying a cheaper domestic (i.e. Toyota/Honda) family mover instead of the Macan, might help you justify keeping the 993 as well.
The 993 is a true GT sports car. The Macan is a family wagon/SUV pretending to be a sports car. One won't completely substitute for the other. Good luck!
