My New Wheels Also!
Here is a pic of my car with the new wheels. Pic is from our last Malibu run. Thanks Max for the wonderful pic. I am still waiting for my new computer with the card reader to upload more pics.

And they are really beautiful, especially in person.
I will, however, be filing an official Rennlist protest. You can't have that screen name and not have a Cab. It really fooled me on the drive, looking for you. Same thing goes for Viperbob, except that he supplies beer, so he is exempt.

Hey ADSCAB, if you can please provide a side picture. I love the HRE 540R, but I never seen a pic of them on a 993. I was going to get the same ones, but was debating wether to get the HRE 540R, Kinesis K28 or K18 or BBS lm. hmm...too many choices..so little time haha thanks!

I was just gonna ask the same, I'd like to see more of the hre 540 wheels. I just had mine on 2 days ago too and just took some pics:
Don't know about you guys but I am not sure I like the ride of the 18" wheels. The steering wheel is heavy and the car doesn't seem to be tossable as before, less fun. On the good side, it it's surprisingly quiet and comfortable nothing like I expected from larger wheels with the same setting of pss9 8f/6r. I boosted up the pressure to 36f/38r and it's still a little on the soft side. Must be the tires (pzero nero). The tires are too new so I don't know about traction yet

There was a post on one of the other boards (996) a few days back regarding the new carrera 18" 5 spoke wheels. The thread indicated that the steering feels suffered from this application.
This was a suprise to me, and perhaps this is what is aflicting your car to give you the impression you have formed. I think the lightness of the wheels is a contributing factor. Personally I love the look - but I would need to upgrade my brakes in order to keep the overall symetry (the wheels make the standard brakes look small). I urrently have SD 18" on and Im happy with these for now.
Of interest, I have a colleague with 18" Carrera 5 spoke light wheels on his 996. He drives hard and when having the rears tyres replaced recently was advised that one of his rims were bent! Probably more a reflection of our poor road surfaces in NZ than anything, but I guess that may be a trade with the lighter construction.

It's more a reflection of the poorer roads and the lower profile on an 18" than any "lighter" construction of the rim. The inside lip of the rear rims are especially vulnerable to damage because of the negative camber in even a stock alignment. I can't tell you how many bent rim lips I've seen on parked ricer cars or slammed trucks (in LA LA land) because they have such low-profile tires, and some with wacko camber! With our cars, the risk of rim damage comes with the territory, but it's not that bad if you're careful.

Right you are. It was the inside of the rim. He takes care but the B roads here can be a bit rough on the lower prfile rims - 19" just isnt praticle here for regular back road driving.

Thx Addison, If you noticed, I reused the black center caps from my old black wheels and it turned out not bad.
Interesting! I thougt the effect on the steering feel was caused by the front tire's size increment from 205 to 225 plus the added weight. Why the wheels? lower offset (50 vs 55)? Was that thread on Rennist forum? can you post the link. Thx for the info.

I did not have 17's to compare steering feel, ride, etc, but I can tell you that there is an improvement in steering feel and overall steering lightness that I did notice going from solid spoke to the lighter HRE. Viken has posted in the past about the improvement going from solid spoke to hollow spoke.
On my old 964 cab, I felt the 18's provided better feel and handling than the 17's. However, it is probably a very subjective thing for everyone.
