Default What does Bruce Know?

I was at the Canepa Tour yesterday and noticed something. Several 933s, on sales floor and in resto shop.

Bruce is able to run a 917 because he has his finger on he market. So what does this say about the 993?

I wanted the Vesuvius CS2 with 1300 miles on it.

Or the Midnight Blue Turbo.

I think the takeaway is that there are enough people with crazy money to buy pristine cars you wouldn't want to drive and Canepa (kind of like Willhoit) has positioned itself as one of the "go to" sellers for those buyers.

It's a market "we" don't exist in. Didn't when a driver Speedster was 5-10% of what the show cars were trading for, same now with 993/964/whatever Blue Chip aircooled.

No. While he does do them for close friends if it is up to his standard. He wants the flexibility and total control to do whatever is needed to make it perfect. Whether a 700 hour detail or total rebuild. I would want one of his Porsches to take to Parade so I could win the best of show.

Again he and his staff are very accessible but they take detail to a level I have not seen. And I have been through the Nethercutt restoration shop while the guys were working.

They do consignment. Maybe not the majority of their cars, but they do take consignments.

700 hour detail. All 20 weeks worth.

Please, don't respond to my post and tell me how amazing it is. There is a sparsely visited forum dedicated to this topic.

Best,

Matt

That's not a "detail." That's a take it apart, clean it completely, and reassemble it while fixing what you find while you're in there so it's like new or better than. I saw. I believe.

THIS

From what I understood it is tear down and rebuilding of the car similar to the way the big race teams tear down and rebuild a car between races. Everything possible is period correct. Their paint guy can produce a perfect 1 stage paint job with the techniques of the period. If you want a car that will surpass PCA Concours or will do very, very, well at Pebble Beach or have a period race car race in significant historic races Canepa is your guy. He knows his nitch and does it well.

It sure seems that Bruce's reputation has recovered very well from his well-known debacles of just a few short years ago.

Some see him as a stellar guy with a deep knowledge and understanding of cars.

Some see him as an oily and typical used car salesman with a penchant for deception and fraud.

Maybe both are true? I dunno. You decide for yourself.

This thread is an interesting read, that's for sure
