You could polish the whole thing, then apply the film and just get it blasted. You might need something more substantial than a film though.

Edit: Looks like Andreas beat me to it!

I believe the factory sills are photo etched using a resistive pattern and acid solution.

Default UPDATED "Scope of Project" and status

Scope of the Project:
(1) EXTERIOR
Speedster Kit, windshield, doors, clamshell, top - Fitted, Painted, waiting for final install
Turbo Front Bumper - Europeanized - Repaired, waiting for paint
Litronic Headlights - waiting for install
LED Blinkers and Tailights ala Tore
Techart Brake Ducts / Foglights - not delivered yet
Euro Front Blinkers (I need help finding this at a good price) - waiting for final install
Euro Side Marker Lights - waiting for final install
Turbo-Look Sideskirts - not delivered yet
Euro Rear Turn Signals - waiting for final install
Rear Center Lense Foglight Modification - debating on buying an OEM part for $500
Rear 964 spoiler lip (of trailing edge) integrated into 993 spoiler, and possibly integrate the 3rd brake light - might have to be canceled as i have not found someone to do this modification. Anyone know someone willing to take this on? I need help finding someone with prototype/fiberglass experience
Carrera 'S' Rear Spoiler insert painted white - made the deal with the devil, waiting on paint
Turbo-style Wheels painted in white (my wife knows how to drive, not worried about curb rash) - painted, waiting for final install
Speedster Badge (of course) - waiting for final install - Debating on having it painted white, Opinions Please?

(2) INTERIOR
Recaro A8 seats with Seatbacks painted white, white piping and heated elements - in progress
993 turbo shiftknob 000044700218YR - not delivered yet
Aluminum Pedals - can't decide on this due to dead pedal, Only proper dead pedal is the Techart one, it is angled and has fixing points.
Navigation Console - found, but i feel bad that someone will take this out of his car to sell to me, anyone have a source for one of these?
White Seat Belts - in progress
Tachometer with 'Speedster' silk screened - in progress
Stainless Steel Threshold Plates w/ 'Speedster' engraved - due to time constraints, i will take the Rennline items and have a black vinyl decal made and put that on

(3) MECHANICAL
M030 Springs - waiting for final install
Bilstein HD Shocks - can't decide, this will have to wait
BMC Airfilter - waiting for final install
Exhaust - Fister Stage 2 - not delivered yet

(4) DETAILS (some previously mentioned)
Tachometer - "speedster" silk screened on
Threshold plate - "speedster" in black vinyl. Need height measurement of 'C' of Carrera S logo on OEM Threshold part PLEASE.
Floor Matts - "speedster" in white, with white piping
Rear Parcel Shelf Carpet - "speedster" embroidered in white. Need height measurement of 'T' of Turbo, Turbo S or 'C' of Carrera RS logo, AND spacing of logo on carpet part PLEASE.
Recaro A8 Seats - "speedster" embroidered in white on small center section, Need height measurement of 'T' of Turbo or Turbo S logo on OEM seat PLEASE.
White leather Porsche key chain
Rear Speedster Badge - Debating on having it painted white, Opinions Please?
Rear Fan painted white
Rear Clamshell - debating on putting black foil on leading parts like '89 version. This has a two-fold effect, (1) protecting surfaces from top mechanism and seat back, and (2) optically making it look like a thinner part, Opinions Please?
Speedster Drivers Manual supplement

Anything missing from the above besides charge-cooled stealth/sleeper 3.8L Twinturbo kit?

-Ben

Here are some photos to help formulate your opinion(s):

Speedster Clamshell (without and with black protection film):

Note: how when the clamshell has the black protection film it is continuous with the black trim on top of the door.

I think you will find that you won't need any protection in those areas on the clamshell. For me, personally, in keeping with the speedster's original philosophy, less is truly more on this car.

Doesn't sound like what you're asking, but those two clamshells are actually different. One is from an '89 (below), the other is from a 964 (above). AFAIK, all the '89's have the black decal, and none of the 964's have it.

That said, I actually like it with the decals against the GP (?) white.

They are still in the factory plastic. I haven't installed them in the 5 years they have been sitting in the garage.
(Nice looking car...)

TwinTurbo959 - cool project.
BTW, I like the look of the clamshell with the black decal on it.
Visually, I think it lightens up the shell so it doesn't appear so heavy.
This works because the car is white. This effect might not be the same on some colors.
