Nice discussion!

"air cooled market bubble will not pop"

"993 market will never soften"

Interesting video, but I wish they stayed on topic a bit more and interrupted each other a bit less. Still, cool to watch.

thanks for sharing, I really enjoy watching a lot of /Drive's videos. The last time they posted an 'After Drive' episode dedicated to "Why you must buy a .... now" they featured the Acura NSX. Not sure if the video had anything to do with it, but the prices for NSXs seemed to skyrocket not long afterwards. Didn't help me out much, however, since I had already agreed to sell my NSX to someone for less than I could have gotten.

There was an egregious error on the 996 discussion, when the hairy guy said as long as you avoid the 1999 models, you didn't have to worry about IMS failure. It was the 2000-2004 models that had the most IMS failures. The 1997 to 1999s had more and stronger bearings.

Your right these guys predicted the NSX bubble before it kicked into gear.

The fine details aren't 100% but there overall message is clear esp for the general public. Isn't the IMS issue all the way till 997.1 (2008), at least based on that lawsuit floating around.

964 guys are loving the praise right now!

They have also have another good value video discussion - $70,000 Cars You Can Buy For Half Price.

I think it is safe to say that the air-cooled market is on solid ground. I don't think we can see a huge devaluation of these cars or that the bubble will burst. There are no more of these cars being made so it is a basic law of supply versus demand. I think the 'halo' cars such as Turbos, WBs, and limited production cars has helped keep the values of all air-cooled cars high. Case in point:

Uh, this makes no sense.

From Day One (1964) through the end of 993 production (1998) pretty much the same plain bearings for the intermediate shaft were used in the 911 (and 914/6).

It is in no way, shape, or form the same bearing used on the M96 engine found in (starting with) the Boxster or the 996. (And yes, if we're doing the primer, differentiate out the GT3, Turbo/GT2, and various competition models, the bottom end of which is based on the air cooleds.)

Now, if you're talking 5 v. 3 chain engines, and where the cutoffs are, my head hurts too much to even go down that road explaining what's what...............

Just let me remove a few things. Thinking along the lines of a certain Targa that will be dropped off soon for $2K.

I watch a lot of these guys' videos, but IMHO they spend way too much time pontificating about the "collector car market" and not enough time talking about cars. With few exceptions, Porsches shouldn't be regarded as investments. Sure, maybe you can pick up a [insert undervalued 911] for $20k and watch it balloon to $30-40k in the future, but I tend to think that most people buying old 911s intend to drive them, not garage them and pamper them for 10 years to realize a (theoretical) $10k gain. That doesn't even account for insurance, storage, etc. Just my $0.02.

Besides, the guts are going to be rocking along in (to bring the thread back on topic) a real longhood. A real, never-had-a-speck-of-rust, original CA longhood. With real RS flares. Only thing missing is the digit on the serial number.

Unlike that POS longhood in the video.......
