Three Wheelin'
I ended up changing 3rd and 4th,and I am quite happy. It gives a nice 2,3,4 range, and leaves 5th and 6th for highway. It is perfect for my driving, but I dont track the car. I talked with Steve, and then the guys at GT gears. I believe 3rd and 4th are similar to a 996 cup.

Made the swap to a RoW G50/21 gearbox when the C2S coupe was about a year+ old and never looked back.
Which 6th gear to use? I'm comfortable with the stock 6th gear in the RoW (Germany) gearbox and yeah, the rpm is noticeably, ever-so-slightly by comparison, elevated when at USA highway speeds; 65-85mph.
On the other hand when overtaking another vehicle the RPM in the moment seems just right.
Good luck. . . New Paltz, NY .... a very nice area to drive a 911.
Cheers, Mike
1998 C2S ordered new - late 8/97 production.
G50/21 RoW, M033/Koni, LPMM, P99RS/Dynaudio, mostly stock . . .

Thanks for the info. What do you think about lowering 2-4, but keeping stock 5-6. I realize the 4-5 jump will be larger...

Made the swap to a RoW G50/21 when my coupe was about a year old or so and couldn't be happier.
Which 6th gear to use? I'm comfortable with the stock 6th in my RoW gearbox and yes the rpm seems ever-so-slightly elevated when at highway speeds; 70-85mph. On the other hand when cruising the coupe over takes another vehicle that much easier.
Good luck

here's an example of a less than favorable change
here's a really nice /21, the jump from 5 to 6 could be a tad shorter but for cruising it's fine, in these charts you generally look for equal or slightly smaller drops as you go up through the gears
I really prefer the thrust charts as they match the engine and trans but the plain ole trans charts are also instructive

Stew,
I have zero experience with re-gearing but I do know the roads in your area very well. You have some of the best in the northeast in my opinion.
My experience here in MA is that 6th is more like a low RPM overdrive. It is useful on long flat roads for low fuel consumption. The MA Pike is not flat and although I rarely take the 993 out on the Pike, the times I have, I've found that when in 6th I don't feel as if I'm in the power band and after a few miles drop down to 5th. I like to keep the motor "happy".
For me, 3rd is the "magical" gear, w/ gobs of torque between 35 and 90, perfect for our rural roads. So I'd work on massaging 2nd and 4th.
If you lived in someplace relatively flat, I'd have a different opinion.
Hope to get "the sisters" together sometime this summer.
Regards,
Al

Hit the button by accident sorry. 5th IMO is too short for 6th. I did 2-6 with after market gears 2-5 and then the euro 6th. Perfect balance. Nice and tight down low and a proper cruising gear as the US 6th was useless way too tall. Yes it's expensive but anyone who says why bother you can't feel the difference on the street has obviously never driven one properly done. As Steve Weiner once said it "feels" like 50hp and he wasn't kidding. Night and day upgrade....massive thumbs up.
