Default Specifically - What size 18" wheels will fit NB 993?

I give up. Maybe it's because I have looked at too many posts about wheels for 993's. But, I'm as confused now as when I first began looking for wheels for my Targa.

A few weeks ago, I thought I had a set in hand. But, they were sold before I could get them. SO, the search goes on.

Has anyone attempted to create a spreadsheet of what wheels by name, make or size will fit NB 993's? Or, a separate list for WB 993's?

My dilemma: As you know the 993 Targas have a fairly unique wheel that is a bear to clean (24 bolts & a tire valve recessed into holes). They are 7 x 17 and 9 x 17 both with 55 ET's. They are too difficult to clean for Concours when used regularly. So, I am going to give them a good cleaning & keep them ready for mounting just before a show. Factory recommended tires are: 205/50 ZR 17 & 255/40 ZR 17.

I like the look of 18's on 993's. And am going in that direction. And, as you can see in the attached image of the RR, there is a LOT more space in that wheel well. BUT,... While factory optional wheels are 8 x 18 (52 et) & 10 x 18 (65 et), I have seen a plethora of other sizes and offsets discussed, and installed.

What are the widest 18" wheels that will fit with what size tires on the Targa? What offsets will work with those wheels? And what tire sizes? (Keep in mind that different tire manufacturers have different cross sections shapes .) And, I do not want to roll the inner fenders.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Anyone have the inclination to start a spreadsheet?

Search for "Bill Verberg" and "wheel sizes" I think he put together a very inclusive list If I am not mistaken...
If you are looking for a good light OEM wheel, I dont think you can go wrong with a set of MY02 5 spoke BBS, 8 & 10 x 18 wheels. Hollow spoke, twist wheels in the same size and offsets you mentioned work well too. (et 52 & et 65)

I don't think Targas are any different than a coupe or a Cab, they are all narrow bodies.

Having said, that there are other variables such as camber settings and how low your car is.

As Paul mention, Bill Verburg has posted offsets MANY times as guidance. in general, 225/40 and 265/35 tires will fit, although, as you state, some brands and models are slightly different. I am running sumi HTR Z IIIs in 225/40 and 285/30 with no rubbing. The sumis seem to be a bit more rounded than say the Yoko AD08s. I don't think a 285/30 in the AD08 would fit a lowered 993 NB without a lot of neg camber.

Everything is basically guidance and there are exceptions, as each car has some individual variances as well. for example, in theory the 996 GT-3 wheels should not fit a NB 993, but Simpateko had them on his car and they looked great.

I have the MY02s that Paul mentioned above, and I think they look great on all 993s. And most of all , they are easy to clean.

from your pics, your car looks pretty high, so you shouldn't have too much trouble fitting some good size rubber under there.

Just my personal setup on a NB without rolled fenders...

18x8.5 et41 w/225/40-18 Pirelli PZero Rosso's, and 2 degrees neg camber up front
18x11 et60 w/ 285/30-18 Pirelli PZero Rosso's and 2.3 degree neg camber in rear

I'm on KW coilovers and not too terribly low but who's counting... Haha.

p.s., This is a really aggressive setup on a NB. I'm probably running larger sizes than most NB guys except a select few. This is just my answer to "what will fit...". If you're looking for worry free fitment, I'd stick to 8.5" fronts max around a 47et and a 10" rear max with around a 50et. 225/40 and 265/35 respectively.

For a no hassles approach, stick to OEM 18" narrow body fitment. 18x8 front with 50-52mm offset wearing 225/40-18 tires and 18x10 rear with 65mm offset wearing 265/35-18 tires. These will fit a NB car (coupe, cab, Targa) at a variety of ride heights. Trying to go wider will mean paying extra attention to specific ride height, alignment, tire size etc.

I've been using the 944racing chart. But, the Wheel Enhancement is another really good one. Thanks.
