the 993...is its styling ageing well?

There are some cars that are timeless. I think the 993 is definitely one of them. Perhaps the reason the 993 prices haven't been climbing as fast as the 80s cars and the 964 is that they didn't fall that low in price to begin with. Other than clapped out cars, tip tropics and the occasional lucky find, the 993 hasn't really dipped below the $30k mark.

356's took off, long hoods followed, SC/Carreras next. Rising tide floats all boats.

Its a fair question.
As I get older, I've started to appreciate the 964 more, although that rear taillight situation is a bit fugly.
Parts of the 993, especially the canted headlights, have become less attractive to me.
They are all relatively decent looking, but I've never considered any 911 beautiful, but rather utilitarian.

I just follow how the market speaks. Go figure the two sitting next to each other in my garage now. The 150K mile 4S that needs a little work, and the 52K 996 Turbo that had nearly $50K thrown at it 20K miles ago in the Ruf conversion. Basically the same market value today, and headed in opposite directions.
(Why, exactly, did I sell the '73S way back when???)

for me, it is the overall combination of the styling, ultimate iteration of the aircooled flat 6, rear engine handling characteristics and enough creature comforts to keep my wife happy.
my 911SC didn't have a working AC, so summer trips to the wine country were not comfortable.
I don't like the 996 styling in general, although I have to say, Ken's Turbo is pretty sharp. The 993 fits all of my needs/wants/desires in a perfect balance.
If styling were the ONLY characteristic I kept a car for, I would still have my 911SC.

993 prices have always been high in comparison to other air cooled models. So people wanting to get into the air cooled market for 15K-20K in the past few years have drove up the prices of 964s and G body 911s. All air cooled models have gone up in price in the past 3 years, 993s maybe a bit slower cause they were already demanding a premium.

Aircooled 911s are getting hotter by the second but I'm hearing the lines of the 993 are just not ageing as well as the true classic lines of the traditional 911. Is there any truth to this? I've always considered the 993 exceptionally gorgeous but lacks that classic look. Can the 993 age as well as the 3.2 and 964 have?
Make your own decision.
