Default the 993...is its styling ageing well?

Aircooled 911s are getting hotter by the second but I'm hearing the lines of the 993 are just not ageing as well as the true classic lines of the traditional 911. Is there any truth to this? I've always considered the 993 exceptionally gorgeous but lacks that classic look. Can the 993 age as well as the 3.2 and 964 have?

Looks are subjective, of course, but whatever the 993 may/may not lose from not having the classic lines (which I don't agree with), it more than makes up for because, in the end, it is the last air-cooled 911 that will ever be made.

That alone would make it always alluring. The last, and most advanced/powerful air-cooled car ever made.

Also, seeing that these 993s are coming up on 20 years old, they are indeed classic, whatever their shape may be.

Of course, I'm biased, but I think they are, overall, the best looking 911s ever made.

Yes, who and where have you heard this? OP read some of the many written articles in the last few years about the 993 along with current market values and decide for yourself.

I tend to agree and this is only my gut feeling. The 70-80 911's are commanding quite a premium, but the 993 doesn't seem to be following the incline as much. Or is it the "wave" has not caught up to the 993 yet?

I think the 993's are the best looking of the 911 series by far. Of course that's my opinion and I am a younger guy (though that may give an idea of what the market for the 993 will be doing in a few years)

Subjective. But what explains the consistent 10% annual increase in value even as we drive our 993s regularly, thus suppressing appreciation. When you come a 993 enthusiast forum and ask this sort of question, you have to assume you are going to get a certain type of response. Don't listen to us, do some reading of known authors on the subject of the last aircooled Porsche.

IMO 993's are the best looking 911 ever. It might be because they were current when I was coming of age (16) and devouring every issue of road and track and car and driver. The raw power of the turbo was alluring. It looked amazing to my eyes. I remember road and track nailing down a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. That was unreal (still is). Yup ok they have a special place is my mind.

They will hold value. The market seems to show this, they are increasing in value the past 2 years or so.

I am by no means a market expert here, but having contemplated the purchase of a Porsche and finally buying a 993 C4S in November, here's what I was seeing and frankly the way I felt as well. 84-89 Carreras seem to be rising very fast right now. Their durability, classic style and relative ease of finding good examples and parts is excellent. The 3.2 engines with G 50 trannies seem to command the highest prices.
91-95 cars seem like they are also rising, but not at the rate of 993 or the late 80's Carreras. I think- and this is just an opinion- that it's due to these model years kind of being stuck in the middle between classic Porsche / golden age cars and the more modern 993. Still getting great money and holding value.
The 95-98 993s seem to be climbing right now as well with WB's - especially the really great examples approaching MSRP prices. Style, and " last of the air-cooled" mentality is driving this from what I can tell.
Then you get into the 99-2002 models that are falling in value. Am seeing these cars with low miles in the high teens to low 20's .

Personally I love the 993 and the 87-89 911,s - classics with great performance and durability and in the long run they will all rise in value. My .02-

There is a certain amount of 911=50 years euphoria in the market, the increase values have certainly made it worth restoring some of the older cars, many of which were run into the ground as cost of repair or maintenance could not be justified. So now many of the older cars are in good condition.

The 993 is probably the most useable and advanced of the air cooled cars, we will see the low miles, pristine examples distance themselves in value from the cars that are used every day.

For the rarer RS, GT2 and some extent the Turbo S variants, the market has definitely taken off in the last 5 years, so there is serious demand for these cars.

Very subjective indeed. In my eyes the 964 and 993 cars are by far the best looking. Also I can't complain about the recent steady spike in WB values.

To the OP original comment about the 993 not aging well. I agree but that's because in my opinion it's not aging at all.

It certainly is a contemporary design and if you have HID and body color bumperettes the car looks as if it could be a current model.

I think my 993TT is better looking and sexier than my buddy's 996TT
