Resurface Rotors

Resurface Rotors
Hi!
I have brakes that are around 80% but the only problem is the previous owner glazed my disks slightly and they squeak. Is it worth having the disks lightly re-surfaced and installing new OEM pads? If not I will just wait out the brakes a while and replace everything.

Remove the pads, run them on a belt sander to get a fresh surface, and re-bed them.
You will be quite pleased with the results!

Thanks guys! They are OEM pads as far as I know. No spiders in there she is a daily driver here in Seattle and I am sure the rain has washed that away.
I will try your trick Steve! Bustarib offered to help me
Will report back with pics

The spider thing was a legitimate question-they are backing pads to the brake pads to reduce noise.

I'm very curious as to how you have arrived at such a conclusion?
I've never had a problem Blanchard grinding or turning drilled rotors, so i am naturally wondering about your experiences?
Porsche workshop manual provides min thicknesses for resurfacing purposes...so long as cracking specs have not been exceeded.

If the spiders are still installed and you decide to pull the pads, you can use a putty knife to unstick the pads from the backs of the spiders. I use the wurth spray to reglue them. On stock pads this should be fine. The wurth spray will cook off if you use it on the track at all.

I no longer use the spiders or the sensors and went with new rotors at 72 k miles ... OE pads for DD ( no squeal) Pagid sports for track days ( plenty of squeal). If you keep the rotors "clean" the squeal is reduced.
Mine had a bit of a lip so resurface would have been close to min specs. I had new front rotors and only had get new rears, so it was a different situation. I would check for cracks, if they are good and you have plenty of run out I would consider resurface first. I have an old friend who refers to this as a learning situation ... :-)

New OEM rotors per Sunset = $4xx.00
Fuzzy math; or some Porsche owners idea of inexpensive? You do the math
Happy New Year, Rennlisters!

My experience 0n a 1996 Carrera ; Stock pads + spiders = little squeal, no spider = lots of squeal
Never had luck with any aftermarket pads not squealing. Also as my rotors approached minimum thickness limit the brakes became a lot nosier, replaced rotors with existing pads quieted right down. anecdotal stuff.
