Default has anyone painted a faded gas cap?

Getting ready to detail the fuel filler area. I have a new gas bib, new washer fluid cap (old one turned to dust). I anticipate the very faded now Pink fuel filler cap will look even worse. Trying to avoid spending 50 bucks to buy a new one. Looking for tips on which paint and which color if anyone has done this already. Thanks

Never did it so can't help. Please post before/after pics of the whole area. This sounds interesting.

I think I would spring for a new cap for two reasons:
  1. The original surface of the cap is color-impregnated plastic/rubber and I'm not sure how well that surface on the cap will hold paint.
  2. The gas filler area is not very spray paint friendly given the potential for drips, spills and vapors; and there is a significant potential for a gummy, peeling gas cap.

Just my thoughts....

New cap is better.

Just get a new one.
And why spend $50 when you can spend $130?

If it's just faded, try just rubbing some peanut oil on it for 5 minutes... some people even use actual peanut butter but all you really need is the stuff that separates in a jar of natural peanut butter

I justified my replacement because the red seal around the base was collapsed. Perhaps yours is similar?

Thanks for all the feedback. I am now convinced that I must replace the old cap with a new cap for safety reasons and really compared with 150 dollars, 50 is a bargain.

You might try some Mother's Back to Black. That stuff is amazing (and works on any color, not just black).

Wait... The 997, Boxter, and Cayenne can all run on petroleum??? My crappy 993 just takes high octane gasoline.

You can buy just the seal which is what I did. Not a bad idea as in some states it's part of emissions testing.

I think if you buff the old one up enough the red will come back.
Or better yet close the fuel filler door and the cap disappears!
