I use the 997Cup brake and it works perfect. PFC parts look and work also great, though.
I really love your project
Cool!!

What plans do you have for the car? I think I will bring my GT2 to Germany and perhaps drive some of the German sports cup races + some private days on the ring.

I was Racing the GT2 for some years, but there is not really a cahmpionship where you can compete with this car. ans also it is very expensive to run the car in the spec I have it in. It is incredible powerful, 740hp and 980Nm. This was the last time I drove it:
I race VLN on a Cup and a lot of classic races with a app. K BDA Escort:
and in the german Youngtimer Trophy with a RSR Group5 3,6L that is just being built.
And then if I find the time I race my 996RSR once or twice a year:

wow!! You have too many nice race cars!

My plan for this season is to drive as much as possible on the Nürburgring. I have done two RCN races already last season so with the e-course and trackwalk I should get my Nordschleife license step B. Then 2 VLN races with a lower class car and I get the Nordschleife Permit A. That is my target this year. I will most likely bring my CUP to the ring too.

With regards to running costs of the GT2, could you please share your knowledge/experience with me? If not publicly here on the forum, perhaps by e-mail...?

I assume the most cost is born from running the high hp engine!? It likely has it's toll on the gearbox and half axles too...

Hi Juha,
as you said the high costs are mainly due to the high hp.
Half axles are actually notan issue. They handle it pretty well.
Gearbox is a big issue. Especially third gear. I have one on my desk ;-)
Another issue is the tires. The 31 Michelin Slicks last for only 30Min.
Then there is a lot of stress on the heads, which I have rebuilt every 20h so they last as Long as possible. I have the GT2Evo heads, which are almost impossible to get anymore.
Clutch is also an issue.
I really enjoy driving it, but only take it out for fun.
Regarding VLN. I know many Teams (raced 24h and VLN in SP7 with Weiland, Kurt Ecke, Sexbomb and Huber Motorsport in the past) and can help you with drives on SP6 and above cars at reasonable Prices.
Here is a Video of me Racing in 2013. We have not had a Video license for 14 and 15 so I do not have any Videos on YouTube, but we got two SP7 Podiums in 2014 :-)

Regarding Sports Cup and GT2. You are not allowed to race your GT2 in that spec. It has to have small restrictors ( I have had that before and had around 550hp and 830Nm with my 3,8 Evo RS-Tuning engine) and it must be in ´98 spec, i.e. yours would be too wide. They want to protect the modern Cup cars ;-)

That's awesome! Putting the car on the podium in SP7...

My plan is to acquire the Nordschleife license step A (the big license) this season and do as many laps as possible on the Nordschleife (RCN, VLN, TF, private days).
I need a lot of laps there before I can race in the higher classes.

Ok, so they don't have an "unlimited" class that you can participate in with any Porsche on slicks? We have that in Finland (class 7).

Some modifications to the intake and intercooler. Change from cable throttle to electronic. The 997 Carrera S throttle valve is exactly the same size of the original one so an easy modification. The throttle valve was integrated into the intake T-piece. We just cut it and welded a flange for the 997 valve.

The engine had been in a 996 chassis the last time it was raced and the intercooler had been modified somewhat; the inlet pipes were in a different angle and the outlet pipe had been lengthened and the blow off valve had been installed on the extension.
It didn't fit like this in the 993 so we cut all the pipes, the blow off valve will be located into the U-pipe going from the intercooler into the throttle valve, the outlet shortened and the inlet pipes rebuilt in correct angle.

There has also been issues with the rubber boost hoses getting loose under pressure so we will replace them with aluminum pipes and attach them with F1 style band clamps. Photos to come later.

not a juha's car update, but a juha update anyway.
I switched to a wider front bumper, the evo2 version.

juha did me a ginormous favor and bought the interior ducting from hahn gfk, then mailed the huge box from finland to utah.
the potential problem was nobody knew if the ducting would fit a non modified tube. since the race car tubs were modified it seemed logical that the ducting would only fit a modified tub.

turns out Hahn's ducting fits a street car tub like it grew there. the oil cooler ducts fit into the groove and lower bulge on the tub, no issues.
the brake ducts require a stud to be removed. I don't have pics of the brake ducts because a part needs to be made to connect the brake duct outlet to the wheel hub. post #537, pic 6, by rs-basti shows the connection.

so anyway, if you switch to the evo2 cover and can get the ducts from hahn gfk they will fit a car with the frame rails and bumper in place.

Glad I could return a favour Todd!! Congrats on the new setup!!

Some progress with the GT2, although not as much as I hoped for...

The flat bottom is ready, it took countless hours of fitting and fairing but now the entire bottom is smooth as butter. We made aluminum sleeves with taper that were bonded to the bottom panelling and welded nuts into the car bottom. By using countersunk screws there is nothing sticking out from the bottom so I can "slide" over curbs if needed. =) Plus the panelling is super easy to remove and re-install.

After reading about so many problems with the charge piping, we decided to make them out of aluminum and use Wiggins clamps:

Finally last fittings done that require sheet metal work/welding. Chassis is now ready for blast and paint.

ABS unit installation

Windshield wiper mechanism converted to race mode; passenger side axle cut and penetration patched. I first wanted to have the wiper in the middle but the shape of the 993 windshield is such that there would be quite a large area left un-covered by the wiper in front of the driver. Therefore we kept the wiper in the original position on the drivers side and just adjusted the swipe pattern so it covers more of the passenger side too.

Car was weighed today with all equipment in.

DRYWEIGHT 1,030kg / 2,270lb (i.e. without liquids and driver).

Also got the new brakes. Rotors fit well, only thing needed is adapters for the calipers and custom pins for the hubs. The calipers are very wide because they allow use of thick endurance pads. Therefore not all wheels will fit. We checked and the BBS E88 0228152 centers clear these brakes. They are special order centers but I'd rather have special order wheels as opposed to custom brake hats. PFC has engineered these brakes and I really don't want to touch it.
