Default How do you remove a window switch without damaging anything

i purchased two new OEM window switches, is there a trick to getting them off, I am assuming they can be pried off from the outside some how

Sorry if this is redundant or too simple, have not really done much to my Porsche other then install mufflers

From memory they pop right out. No issues at all. Just be careful not to scratch the door panel with anything sharp.

Try wrapping the head of a med sized screwdriver with duct tape or painters tape. Insert from below and gentle pull switch out towards you.

It sounds like the bezel is attached to the switch and I am prying the bezel out and away from the door panel?

Thanks P Daddy
I will give it a shot
Does not sound too challenging, even for me
Hopefully the switches last, I read a lot of posts about the OEM and after market switches going bad in months

I've owned my 95 for almost 8 years, never replaced a switch on that car. One failed on the 97 shortly after buying it 5 years ago, replaced with a aftermarket one from a friend (FREE!!!!)........still works fine today. Hopefully same luck for you!

The switch is a one-piece part and prys out fairly easily with a broad flat-tipped screwdriver. Just take your time.

screwdriver. be careful not to pry up the metal part behind the switch but just the switch. You'll see.

When I replaced one of mine, it was difficult to remove because of the black sealant for the plastic shield behind the door panel holding it. It eventually pulled out, but the wires would only allow it to come out about 1 inch. Just be patient and use more pulling force than you think you might need. BTW - The whole unit comes out, no separation of anything.

save the old switch's...they are repairable. Search is your friend here, another easy-finniky, but easy DIY.

Window switch replacement time...under 5 minutes. That's if you pause, and go refill the coffee cup.

i'm amazed the people here would recommend screwdrivers around their precious interiors.

use a proper interior trim tool. They are like $5 at harbor freight.

If the switch is bad and of no use, why wouldn't you use a pair of pliers to grab from the bad switch lever and avoid the trim completely? Unless you want to save it and try to repair it..

The plastic interior tools are the way to go. The prying motion gives you more precision when removing. Good to get in the habit of proper removal in case of window, stereo, mirror, or other inside door repairs where you are not ready to destroy the switch.

I've been able to just pop them out with my fingers, pull gently around the side to loosen, then once it's out a little give it a tug, it will pop right out.

Yea, I'm with Quad on this, if you are doing interior trim work, get the trim tools, the whole kit is like $18 and will pay for it self on 1st use.
