Default 1st Road Trip

Took the 993 (95 C4) from Seattle up highway 2 to Leavenworth today. Awesome road and beautiful too. Kept the revs up the whole trip around 3-4k (higher for bursts). The engine is very happy now as it had been sentenced to commuting several months. I could feel the slight power drop due to altitude once we got close to 4000', but just kept up the revs and she was happy. I did some coasting down hill at around 2500 in fifth, but love 3rd and 4th for most of the highway segments. I feel like my 993 showed me how to drive it today! It is all happy with fresh oil, tires etc. sure I burned out the carbon on some of those times I was passing in 3rd it is good to keep your top end happy I have heard.

How do you drive your 993?

Yes, it's good to keep the revs up when accelerating. At a constant speed on level ground or down hill, then I'll let the revs drop below 3k. Every drive I take it up to redline several times during the drive (blow out any carbon, you know, an "Italian tune-up"!). Been driving it this way the five 1/2 years I've owned it, and the engine is still very strong at 44.4k miles. The main thing is, don't lug the engine.

Saneproductions, gorgeous pictures! I just inherited a 993 a couple of weeks ago and its been in the shop for PPI and some regular maintenance work. Seeing your pictures are making me so anxious to get it back! The wait is unbearable.

High throttle application (load), low rpm.

Yep, what Tim said. I'm sure there's a very technical description, but basically working the engine too hard at too low an RPM. You should be able to feel that the engine is working too hard, it feels and sounds strained. Any doubts, always downshift when you accerate in order to keep the revs > 3k (it feels and sounds better also).

Yes, totally agree! It looks surreal, almost like a painting. I'd bet that's no iPhone pic!

So what exactly happens if you do this and why is it bad?
