Bill,

That is some great advice as all of us at one point will need to address this issue.

May I ask if you have the 964 seal installed?

Thank you.

Regards,

.

For some reason on 993 both the front and rear windows seem to collect water then rust at their lower edges
I am confused Bill. At first read of (them in bold above) I thought you were referring to the seal, but on second read them is the window?

DO you think the 964 seal does a better job of keeping water out of the channel in a 993 or are we (I) misunderstanding? TIA

Does anyone have a good and knowledgeable shop to recommend in Los Angeles? I have some rust at the base of the rear side window (driver's side.)

BTW: nine9six you are right! I would also be pissed.

I was under the impression that the 964, as well as all the older 911 models had the same potential rust issue at the base of the windshield as the 993. Am I incorrect on that? So the 964 seal would solve the creaking problem but not necessarily reduce the potential of the cowl collecting water and rusting?

I've got a '76 that certainly does't have that problem. When new it was my dd and wasn't particularly pampered. I don't recall hearing of this problem wrt the earlier cars any where near the extent that I heat about it wrt 993.

That said the body guys swear that if you repair it as Geolab has outlined you won't have a repeat.

I just don't like having to buy a ~$1000 window just because it has to come out for some reason.

Incorrect. The problem can occur on any car with this seal design. I just had my rear window frame repaired. Had a bubble in the paint about the size of a dime.

My 1980 911SC (a SoCal and AZ car its whole life) had rust in the windshield corners as well. I like the idea of using the 964 windshield and seal for my 993, even if it helps just a little. The glass is cheaper too, isn't it?

Dumb question but.... The windshield opening for the street 993 and 993 Cup car is the same?

Will use of the earlier press in seal affect airbag operation?

That's one of the big reasons that they went to the glue in windows, yes, the A/B will tend to blow the window out

Bill, thanks for the info on the 964 and earlier windshield seal ...
I assume you use the matching 911 - 964 glass or will 993 glass work?

Thnx.

Well, if the airbag goes off, maybe it's academic whether the window blows out.
