Nice fix. I've been wanting to do something similar because mine is broken like that too.

The pop rivets seem a bit over-the-top for a trim piece. I'll probably use a dab of Goop to affix the repair piece to the plastic.

1st Gear, is it possible to send a photo of the tab you made with little dimensions?

I have to double check, I think my sides are still in tact, just the spring clips are gone, when I tried to fit new clips on, they just slip right off. Any idea why that is?

Many thanks for this, Chad!!!! One of mine has been broken since I've owned the car and just could not bring myself to purchase another. I will give it a shot.

Also, can someone send a picture of an undamaged plate with the clip off?

I sold the car 3 years ago, but I think I may still have the plate as I replaced it with the storage hole when I deleted my rear wing. Let me check the garage.

Broken tab. Plastic is very thin at the end of the tab and breaks easily.

I cut a piece of tin after mating it up with the side that wasn't broken and scoring the cuts. The center gap that accomodates the tab was cut out with a dremmel. I attached the tin with 3 small rivets.

Reattach your tab and you are ready to roll!

Very nice solution, I just did mine yesterday, I put the tin plate in the slot, had to remove some plastic so tin went down into the recess, also left out the hole for the clip to lock into, that way if ever have to remove again, will not damage the switch housing. I used some #2 1/4 inch sheet metal screws to secure the tin in the slot, couldn’t have gotten the head of rivet gun into the area.

After switch covers were back in place.

I see that Sierra Madre carries an aftermarket Window Switch for just $12.55. I always keep a spare in my tool bag. I also try to press down at the base of the switch to reduce torque.

Finally, I’m a huge fan of Tore’s products - but $115 for that repair kit is absurd. Just go out and buy a small can of Oatey’s plastic cement and you can rebuild just about anything that’s plastic.

Shapways also makes 3D Plastic Replacement tabs for $25.00. Again, Oatey’s plastic cement will do the trick if you’re at all handy.

I agree, I fixed my upper and lower switch housings yesterday with new clips and a sheet of tin from TSC, fastened tin in place with #2 1/4 inch sheet metal screws, took a bit to get a template, but should last another 20+ years... thanks again. All in probably less than $20 in parts.

guess I did not look at that price closely. I read it as $15 and thought, not bad.
