Should have asked here before using that Gorilla crap!

3M™ Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Foam Tape 5314, Gray, 30 mil

Additional Information

3M™ Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Foam Tape 5314 is a medium-density foam tape providing a balance of conformability and strength. The acrylic foam core has unique viscoelastic properties that allow it to elongate and relax when put under load, thereby minimizing stress on the adhesive bond line. This tape has AR-7 adhesive on the liner side of the product for bonding to automotive paint surfaces. DS-4 adhesive is used on the non-liner side of this product for bonding to the exterior trim part. Typical applications include automotive body side moldings, door edge moldings, roof slats, and thin or flexible nameplates.

Thanks. This sound right and looked like what was holding mine on originally. I removed them but have not gotten to removing the remains of the double-sided sticky to reinstall.

[worst stuff ever invented /QUOTE]

I could not agree with you more! That stuff is garbage.

Very broad and opionated statement...

1) for this application on a 993 - garbage indeed!
2) for wood working applications especially those which require creating curvelinear shapes (veneer layers or plies) or anything else with "voids" the best stuff ever invented. Ask me how I know...

Clean up - a chisel works best...

As long as this is turning to a Gorilla Glue review thread...

Fantastic stuff, when used for porous stuff like wood, or items with voids at the gluing surfaces. Three draw-backs/issues:

1. You have to be very careful of the foaming expansion... first time I ever used it, I had no idea it would expand like that. Made a huge mess like OP now has.

2. Very hard (sometimes impossible) to clean the mess up.

3. If you save it for long, it hardens up in the bottle. So, don't buy anything but the smallest size unless you really need to do a lot of gluing.

Agreed, double stick tape is the way to go. Gorilla glue is trash.

Gorilla Glue may work on wood, but the bottle says, and I quote "bonds wood, stone, metal, ceramics, foam, glass & more". I've never tried it on wood but it certainly doesn't work worth a damn on metal or plastic. Count me in with the crowd that considers it a worthless product.

Here are some more tips...

Say you have something stuck down with the double sided tape and you want to remove it. I use dental flossing tape (the real thick kind and not the thin plastic crap) and use it as a wire saw to cut the tape in half. Then with my thumb nail I work the foam and stickum off as much as possible. Then I use Goof Off solvent to get the rest of the tape, etc... off.

Years ago I had some rust repaired that was under the rubber door strip on my old SC. After the fix I asked the body man who did the work (and was familiar with Porsche rust repair) if I should use double sided tape to hold down the rubber strip. He said not to because the (slight) thickness of the tape between the rubber strip and the door sill was an excellent way to trap water.

I glued it instead.

Gorilla Glue is great on wood projects. I use it to bond the brass tubes to wood on my pen projects. On the pen below, I also used it to bond the alternating layers of amboyna and buckeye burl. This is my 917 tribute pen.

That's a great looking pen. Do you sell them?

I have made them for family and friends, never sold any. Working on a shift **** and brake handle for the 993 using the same pattern as the pen.

I just used some gorilla glue for holding joining some melamine boards on a shelf project. I saw it was recommended for no porous applications on a couple woodworking sites. The stuff did expand in a few places and was easily removed with a razor blade.
