Update on my 993:

Since I bought the car, I've done the following maintenance:

- All belts, filters, fluids
- Replaced SAI valve
- Clean ISV and air flow sensor
- Repaired all leaks (oil and transmission fluids)
- Full detail and swirl removal (but no paint correction yet)
- Aerospace 303 all rubber seals

Within the past 10K miles, this car has had:
- Clutch and RMS
- Brakes, pads, rotors, spark plugs and wires, etc.

I have bought the following for the car (mods, not all installed yet):
- T-Light and other replacement bulbs
- Clear sides
- New rock guards
- New key/clicker (back-up)
- Replaced battery in original key
- Dr. Colorchip (AKA - "fingerpaint my car")
- Willwood Bike Rack

Left on my immediate shortlist:
- Suspension...Coilovers or Bilstein HD's?...how much to lower?
- Front control arm bushings
- New summer performance tires...choices choices...
- Winter/Snow tires? Or do I just buy a 3rd car?

Future planning:
- Short Shift Kit

How am I doing so far? This is fun.

That's an impressive list in such a short while. Did you do all the maint yourself? All the more impressive if so!

I will be interested to see how your finger painting session, aka Dr Colorchip, works out. You ordered the exact paintcode from them I take it? Please post some before and after pics if you remember. I'm thinking about trying that this winter.

Keep up the good work!

Impressive Mike! Lovely Targa!

I think I'd go 033/Koni FSD for a Targa or Cab. The PSS10s and Bilstein HDs can be a bit rough/stiff and since those cars like to flex a bit more, it may not be the best option.

Same with going from 17 to 18" wheels...

But good onya for saving and keeping a Targa on the road! Rare car!

JB - i do my own detailing (including headlights and stone guards). I have trusted mechanical help.

First attempt at Dr. Colorchip? Yes, they carry Aventurine Green paint (select year-make-model- specific color). Excellent color match. Overall my first attempt was a big fail!!! I ended up putting micro scratches in my clearcoat (a hyper-active pet peeve). So all of that detailing I did was just a practice run... I will get out the bufffer and start again.

RocketJohn, thanks. Will research those suspension options.

JMG - RE: DME. I added one to my shopping cart, but never bought it! I will definitely do that. Thanks for the reminder.

JB,

I have had good results with Dr. Colorchip. Their midnight blue is a good match. While it will never look factory perfect it is still much better than doing nothing.

I think i let the OCD take over with the dr colorchip. Once i started, i had to touch every damn spot. Couldnt stop. I ended with paint smeared all over the place. I had a "holy cow what the hell did I do" moment.

In the end it came out fine, i just scratched up the clearcoat a little in the clean up. Most folks probably wouldnt even care, but it drives me nuts.

Easily fixable with the buffer, and I blame operator error.

I wil get it right on my next try, and i will post some pictures of the right...and wrong...way to use use dr colorchip.

Craig (CSMAB) - any thoughts on the 033/koni combination?

As a recent 993 first time buyer, I can attest to your having made the right decision. Drive it hard and the check engine light is a thing of the past / no new belts, plugs, injectors, etc. run it up to 5500 and drive for about 15 miles. If it is a Tip car, do the same as the engine metering system is more likely to get foueled if it is driven as an automatic.

I let my 06 c4S go just to return to a wheezer. More fun and the ability to work on the car is multifold compared to a water cooled version.

Priors include a 914-2.0, 914-6, two 912E's a 911S, 2 911SC's, an 84 Carrera, and,.. in the earlier addiction era, a 62 356 notchback coupe, 356 speedster, 62 crank-sunroof coupe and a 64 356 SC then, to test the marque, one 4 cam Carrera with more shims in the motor than nuts or bolts. Fun stuff / thanks to all for the information herein.
