Default Bridgestone S-04's

I have RE050A's on the car now, happy with them, and need to replace the rears, and want to do ONLY the rears.... But It seems this tire is out of production now, only available as run-flats....

TireRack lists S-04 in the right sizes, price is good, but I hate to "waste" a good set of fronts by buying 4new ones...

1) Advisability, for or against, of keeping RE050A on front, replacing rears with S-04

2). OR, get RFT in RE050A for rear only?

3) replace all four, which then leads to final question:

Does anyone have the S-04s on their 993? Comments for or against?

Thanks in advance!

I have a set that is waiting to go on the car when my wheels are done being refinished. I sold the fronts with 13K on Craigslist for $85.

Whatever you do, don't do this.

I agree with Mike S. Don't mix RFTs with regular tires. The conventional wisdom, particularly applicable to a sports/high perf car, is to have the same tread pattern on all four wheels.

I have RE050-As on my SC and will be faced with the same problem that you have. I will bite the bullet and put four S-04s on the car.

How old are the fronts? Tread depth isn't the only measure. 4-5 years old all tires are ready to be junked IMO. Especially performance tires.

My point was a little wider ranging. Stay away from run-flat tires under any circumstances on any car, including any Corolla or Hyundai.

Well, unless you have a wife who throws down the "that's what the manufacturer put on the car" card. (I only let her play that card with her car. Man those things are bad.)

I have a new set of S-04s and I really like them. Extremely precise reacting with good braking performance.Recently did a 250 mile trip on them and could not be happier . No wet yet so that remains a question .

Thanks.... I'll be driving cross country with the new tires later this month, and then a D/E at the end of August, so I'll get plenty of chances to find out how good/not good they are in varying road/weather conditions...

Don't forget SnakeOil for non-performance European cars.

Avenger,

Any updates on the S-04s? I've got to replace the Michelin PS2s on my 993. I'll prob do another set of PS2s but am considering the S-04.

Any thoughts, guys?
