You also should have someone check it out and get a PPI before getting too serious. Not that I don't think these are beautiful cars, but, they are both sold by dealers and dealers don't tend to be as honest (at least in my experience) as a private seller if there's something to hide. A good PPI by an independent shop that can throw her on the lift and closely evaluate the underside and body, can save you a lot of headaches.

Again, that's a steep price for those cars. However, if they are completely maintained and have ALL the service work done and the car has ALL the options you want, then go for it. For me, I'm quite familiar with these cars and there's always got to be something in the budget to get out all the kinks.
Thanks for all your insight Marc and everyone else's too. I really appreciate it. I actual am moderatley good with a wrench and the roof issues don't scare me. If you look at my User Name I got into Porsches with a love of the 993 and extensively researched and yes - a PPI will be a must. An excellent book I've just picked up is the Porsche 911 Buyer's Guide' 2nd Edition, by Randy Leffingwell. It's excellent. Lots of details on every year from 1965 - 2010.

I'll let everybody know how I progress! I'm driving a GREAT daily driver at the moment and have no REAL (Real as in 'justifiable to my wife') to have a third car or even to swap the current one out. Love the hunt...

Way too funny. Lol. Tx for posting. I do not track but have fun driving errr... Exuberantly let's say, around town and the local roads and hills.

Well Mike. On a sunny reasonably hot (but not too hot day), a cab has a wonderful view. But in the rain, or super hot conditions (where you NEED the A/C) then the targa is a better experience. On the race track, I need a cage in a coupe - can never be too safe.

To be honest, I've owned a convertible non-stop since 1998, so it's been exactly 15 years now. 2 E30, 2 993, Miata - all of them had been my daily drivers in that time frame. I drop the roof any chance I have. By the same token, any car I've had with a sunroof - I always keen the under-glass panel open so the car feels more airy, but I never open the sunroof itself. Same was true for a T-top MR2 I've owned. That's similar to a Targa in concept, actually, at least to older 911 Targas.

Both indeed look pristine and..., way way overpriced.
FYI TruSpeed (which most would consider to have fairly good condition cars) has this one for over a year now.

The silver w/ red has a truly ridiculous asking at $55900. You can get a C2S with similar mileage at that price.

As an owner, selfishly speaking, I hope 993 prices go thru' the roof. But right now, right here, each car needs to take a $15k discount to get market clearing price.

Good luck hunting.

Pretty new here on Rennlist - but been on all of the other sites for some time.

Found this topic as I have been asked to sell this car for a friend (he is 70, getting out of cars and into retirement) - which has had VERY extensive (and expensive) work performed on the top. I am sure each and every owner of the 993 Targa's are aware of such costs. $13,000 in parts / labor to redo the Targa top.

Not a bad car if you can deal with the mileage - right about $31,500. Heck, at $55,000 versus $31,500 - that $23,500 sounds like a pair of 996's to flank it!

Probably done at the dealership.

Beautiful car. GLWS.

Marc - I couldn't agree more. When he was telling me about it - I thought he was exaggerating - how could it possibly cost this much - but the receipts all show what was done and indeed, crazy.
