Clutch point of engagement
After searching the 993 Workshop manual, I understand that there is no adjustment of where the clutch begins engagement in the travel of the pedal.
My conclusion is, the further engagement occurs in the clutch pedal travel from floorboard, to home (extended) position; is an indicator of clutch wear?
Is this thought process correct, or am I missing an adjustment for clutch engagement in relation to pedal travel?
What I desire, is the beginning of clutch engagement at about an inch off the floorboard. Is this achievable with an adjustment?

I am told your statement is true. I need a new clutch, release is very high. Mechanic told me no way to adjust effectively, only a new clutch will be near the floorboard but will quickly settle to about midway up once broken in. Others should be able to confirm this.

Yah. common wisdom is that a high engagement point means a clutch that is wearing - possibly the disk and/or the flywheel/pressure plate. If you are going to change the entire assembly (like the flywheel/disk/pressure plate), for example upgrading to a RS clutch, then you can use the car until it starts to slip with no worries. If you want to reuse the flywheel and pressure plate, you might want to do the clutch before you wear it that far just in case you score any of the clamping surfaces.

Yep that's what they say. The shop that did my PPI said my clutch releases pretty high but grips well, and there is no way to tell how worn it is without looking at it. I have 68k miles.

The 993's I drove before I bought my one all felt this way. I just assumed thats the way it is. Then again, I was always looking at cars with around 35k-45k miles from good owners so maybe that has something to do with the similar feeling clutches.

My clutch point of engagement was when she came out of the restroom holding a small piece of plastic with a blue stripe showing in the little window, I had no choice but to become engaged at that point.....wait...what?.....you mean the clutch on the 993?!.....nevermind

I have driven 993's with their clutch point lower than the half-way point, so it does vary. Its seems that the RS clutch engagement point is lower than the DMF, but I have not tracked it to be sure.
I know my 96 Targa with a RS clutch had a fairly low point, and my 97 TT is much higher. Got a RS clutch package sitting on the shelf just in case ....

Mike
