Cooling fan problem - It stays on forever
Hi,
Just bought a new 993 1995 and realized the fan electric plug was unpluged. When I plugged it, the fan started... even if I had the keys in my hands...
I understood why the seller deplugged it! Anyone knows if it's a known problem or any idea on how to correct this? Can it be just a sensor?
Thanks!

I would guess you mean the rear electric fan?
It's supposed to run at ignition off to cool the engine for up to about 20 minutes.. The CCU controls the operation, and supervises the temperature by a sensor in the air hose. You might have a problem with the sensor if the fan does not stop. Here's the details, use the HVAC operation page link on top of the page:

Many threads on this, including a few of mine. Might need to check out the relays as well as the CCU. make sure the temp **** is all the way turned down too. Did your PPI not find this??

There is a temp sensor just below the blower which sits atop a large round air tube. Make sure that is connected. If not, the fan runs continuously and will drain your battery.

I just changed the Fan resistor (part # 964 616 550 02) but did not solve the problem. Now I'm waiting an other part from the dealer (fan sensor #964 659 120 00).
The relay seems OK but I didn't know the CCU could be related to that??? By the way the CCU fan make a little anoying noise in the dash. Could it be related???
I just cross my fingers that the sensor will solve the problem. I'll know by the end of the week.

The CCU fan starts to make noises when it wears. This is not related to any faults on the rear fan circuit other than that they are about the same age, and these electric components are beginning to wear out now.
The rear sensor can be measured by using an ohmmeter or by reading out the measured value by using a OBD tool connected to the CCU.

How hot does it typically have to be outside for the engine Aux fan to run after the engine is turned off? I'm in Arizona and on a warm day when you'd think the fan would run after engine shut-down, it doesn't. I have yet to drive the car yet in really hot temps. The fan does work...
